I wrote this song inspired by the drums of a band called My Bloody Valentine. I started by hacking away on my 1900 upright grand piano, using a few microphones to capture the sound. Then, I layered in a bass guitar and recorded some guitar overdubs, running it all through my favorite MXR flanger pedal, which added a psychedelic vibe. My mother had given me a $100 Amazon gift certificate, so I bought a cheap Yamaha mini synthesizer. For this track, I made a rule to only use that synthesizer. I plugged it in through the headphone jack and found some sound pads-kind of like strings-and added sustain to give it a trippy feel. I ended up layering three or four tracks of that, playing along with the melody. My first instrument was guitar, which I started playing around 1985. I’ll admit, I wasn’t great, but I came from the end of the grunge era in the mid-90s. I didn’t start learning piano until 2001, with some guidance from my friend Shon Sullivan, a musician who worked with Elliott Smith. Elliott was an incredibly talented songwriter and even did some tracks for Good Will Hunting. Definitely worth checking out. When I got my piano, I asked Shon for some quick tips on how to play, and he gave me some useful ideas-I’m still thankful for that. Recording the way I do now is a tribute to all the people in my life who helped me learn how to play guitar and record on tape. I may feel like a dinosaur these days, but I still love playing music and writing.

Adolph Blackstone - I was told by a former employee that he got sick with Covid-19 for about three weeks and then was hospitalized the last four days. It’s a huge loss. I’m glad I had a chance to spend time with him when he was running Fitness Concepts. He was a true motivator and I always had him on my social media. I didn’t know of his financial struggles during Fitness Concepts but I did sense it. Sam never put his phone down and was most driven person I have ever met in my 48 years on this planet. He eventually unlocked the key to becoming a multimillionaire within 5 or 6 years after I left Fitness Concepts. He will be missed and I’m feel sad for his wife and children. They lost a great soul.

@@RyanHemming he did not die from Covid19 he was healthy to die from it! It is public knowledge and you can get the info of how he died. His partner never, ever mentioned what he died from which is unusual. Sam was bigger than life and he was the “PowerHouse” of the business he started up and owned.
