2017 my Thai wife and I were in Longreach. I think they were opening the stockmans hall of fame in Winton. Met two couples who went up to Winton but abandoned it and came back to Longreach specifically because of the flies in Winton.

Mate, I have to disagree with you about Bourke. We've camped at Kidman's Camp numerous times on our way to Corner Country in our 4WDs and have only had good experiences. Admittedly, we haven't been there since just before Covid, but the locals have always been tops and greet us with a solid country welcome. Great food and excellent yarns with the locals to be had at the Port of Bourke Hotel. Yes, there are certainly problems, but all towns face the same sort of stuff in varying degrees, sadly. Sometimes you just have to look beyond the obvious to find gold. Cheers - Dave

I'm in my 60s and remember going pig shooting on the Parroo channel just out of Wilcannia. After a long drive we arrived at Wilcannia on a Friday night and pulled up at the pub around 8. I was only 15 and 2 of the fellas I was with went in to get some cartons. next thing they're walking out backwards with one carrying the cartons and the other with his old black powder Navy Colt pistol drawn. As he's backing out he yelled to me to let the dogs out, my huge agro pig killing bully cross and an equally mental blue heeler along with another huge terrier cross, as I did all these drunk and agro black fellas come through the door way, one look at the snarling dogs sent them back into the pub. They didn't seem too concerned about the hand gun, but those dogs, plus the hand gun and a few more of us seemed to change their minds. As they were coming out the doors with the pistol out it was like an old wild west movie. That place was an absolute dump in the 70s, people living under 2 bits of corrugated iron laid length ways was on the ground like an A frame and they just slid in under it to sleep

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I agree. Whilst my time in town was limited, the only scousers I saw were white. I’m sure it’s not limited to one group hence me not suggesting that in my videos. On saying that, I fully understand the challenges these towns face with some of the indigenous people. I just didn’t actually see that whilst I was there for an hour.
