This line is absolutely burning! Pat’s command of harmony and stamina were otherworldly. His life is very inspiring too. I’ve been obsessed with his albums East and We’ll Be Together Again lately. Any tips on how to get this up to correct speed? I can play it fast but this speed seems impossible lol. Also, what song or album of his did you grab this from?
@mbacarellaguitar4 күн бұрын
Pat was amazing! Those are my two favorite albums of his as well! As far as speed goes, I would recommend playing it super slow until you can play it perfectly without mistakes over and over again. Make sure your hands are super calm, with no tension. Once you achieve that, and give your fingers a chance to really know what they are supposed to be doing, speed is easier to build. After that, getting out the metronome and gradually building speed is good, or taking it and applying it to tunes at various tempos. Both are good ideas!

@@mbacarellaguitar We’ll Be Together Again is such a beautiful album, the atmosphere is just amazing! Thanks a lot! I can play it no problem slow and at a faster swing tempo as well. I’m messing around with different ways to pick it, I think all alternate won’t work for me. I might have to end up combining it with sweeping the arpeggios. Metronome sounds good too, what BPM would you say this is? I really want this one to be part of my vocabulary. I really love how it sounds over Bb major 7#11
@mbacarellaguitar4 күн бұрын
As far as picking goes, do what you have to do! I alternate pick most things, but I know that’s not always doable for some people at these tempos. If economy picking makes it doable, go for it! The tempo is somewhere around 160bpm or so.

Super cool man - thanks for posting. For some reason, I never got the simplicity of the two note 2 string are Peggio and how easy it was to modulate from one chord type to the other .

Glad you enjoyed it! Once I noticed how simple those two string arpeggios were to move around and chance to different chord types, it completely changed my playing!

The concept is quite simple, but the results are more musical than the standard play-the-notes-of-the-arpeggio-in-sequence licks. Lots of possibilities for mixing this up with scalar or chromatic descents. Changing the thirds out for fourths is another flavour.

I got hip to this concept a while back and I deduced that the thinking is Am is the 2 chord of a 2-5-1 in G. Therefore Eb melodic minor would be the altered 5 of G. Jazzers thinking 2-5-1 so that’s my rational. Whatever the case, sounds pretty hip and I use it to go “outside” sometimes.
