Looks awful. Camera movement is fine to be smoothed, but the artstyle of stop motion is lost when interpolated

Alot of people watching this can already do this to movies. Watch The Nightmare Before Christmas if you are not in game mode your tv will probably step it up to 60hz, you may have already watched a movie this way and was not aware of it it's quite noticeable with stop motion movies

It's as if the legos were possessed and came alive! Edit: I noticed some people mentioning awkwardness in jump cuts. I'd might have cut up and rendered each section with a jump cut separately if I wanted to deal with that, but it's such a small issue that I'd not bother with it personally, unless I were making some big budget production. I'd be fascinated on how AI might affect stop motion movies in the future, though, that might not be a thing since a lower fps seems more a stylistic choice in those cases. Then again, it'd be awesome to see a lego movie that was not made with CGI, but instead with real lego using stop motion and using AI to smooth it out.

I remember watching this when it was first released. It was so ahead of its time. Now looking back at it, this looks pretty bad compared to stuff we have now.

Yeah, that also strikes me. Also the stopmotion I made whose script was written by GPT-2. Had to manually finetune, code it up, get my hands dirty. Three years later, you can get a script by, literally, asking. And it will be of magnitudes higher quality. I just wanna document this process a little bit so that we can look back authentically in ten or twenty years

Maybe instead of 1:4, try 1:2 or 3:4 and see if that yields more stable improvements. So maybe shoot for 30 fps or 20 fps instead of 60? See if that hides the rough edges better.

Endlich hab ich das Video nach so vielen Jahren wiedergefunden TwT Ich kann mich daran erinnern das vor mehreren Jahren (ca. 8) hat mir eine Freundin diese Geschichte mit dem Video gezeigt. Ich hab mir am Ende wirklich erschrocken XD Sehr bald hab ich dieses Video einer anderen Freundin gezeigt und sie hat sich auch erschrocken. Wir haben das video immer und immer wieder überr mehrere tage gesehen und eines tages... hab ich das video nicht mehr wiedergefunden. Ich hab wirklich über die jahre verteilt das video gesucht. Ich kannte nur noch das hintergrundbild. Mit imemr weniger und weniger Hoffnung hab es aufgegeben. Doch heute hatte ich die Motivation es erneut zu suchen und fand es tatsächlich auch wieder. Das video habe ich natürlich direkt meinen beiden Freunden von darmal sofort geteilt ^^ Das ist einer meiner Lieblings Erinnerungen so wie einer meiner Lieblings Geschichten. Ich finde du hast es mega gemacht dafür das es vor 10 Jahren herausgekommen ist <3

I'm tired of people crapping on interpolation because it sucks on animation, its not even meant for that. It's meant for more realistic visuals which is why it works so perfect on this

actually to me a more interesting question is "what's the floor fps you can drop it to while retaining what you want?" so say animate at 10 fps and up it to 30 with ai, how would it work out?

I Notice that there is this weird glitch frame in between cuts from different angles. this is because the two shots are of different angles so the AI tries to interpolate between two frames that are completely different. creating this weird effect. A simple solution is to input each shot individually into the program, and once each clip is interpolated. you can then stitch them together using your preferred editing software. I know this is more tedious but at least you wont get that glitching frame every time you cut to another angle. hope this helps. 🧡❤❤‍🩹💌
