Idk man. Suffix isn’t known for distance , a little thin and rigid, cortland masterbraid- 4x curier braid for froggin and top water a 4x is way more practical, casts further, smoother, less memory, doesn’t get hung up on grass as much. 25lb- 50lb is a good rule of thumb but definitely a mono leader if your fishing open water, braid has the tendency to wrap around the trebles on the cast, which could spoil your shot at a big bass or even a kicker bass or a bass of a lifetime- either way it’s a missed opportunity, you can avoid that by using a 12-24 inch mono liter, what mono also does is stretch.. which if your in sync with your twitching of a walking bait and popper, you can kinda get the line to assist in better and faster walking action- even wider action with the stretch that mono provides. Also ANOTHER benefit to using a mono leader (or even floro/copoly- it don’t matter) is hook up ratio, when a bass comes up to bite it and maybe your in the middle of working the bait and the bass barley gets hook, with braid you pull it right from him the second you impart action or set the hook, with mono they can eat it/ swipe at it.. and it should be basic knowledge to let them eat it before you swing, but mono gives the inexperienced angler the advantage of time to hook up, and allowing the bass to eat the bait, get hook, and not worry about the braid messing up any chance of a shot at a big bass. This is borderline terrible advice, especially coming from a so called professional. There should be way more suggestions and applications besides the one and only way YOU throw a treble hook top water, which I’m sorry but you’re doing it incorrect it’s just lazy and your probably frustrated all the time with line wrapping around your hooks and missing fish.

I love my beat down , but I’m afraid it’s too heavy. This is not a problem in a lot of boats, but I’m running a 90+mph unit and I’m afraid I might be getting some micro fracturing. I have a 16 and 12 inch garmin on it. I might try and look at one of your lighter ones.

The light action ones have flex profile as close to parabolic as you will find among light rated casting rods. There is definitely more bend in the middle, even when fighting smaller fish. To me, thats a good thing, rods with more flex closer to the handle will transmit vibration to your hand better than fast or extra fast actions.

Forward facing sonar now the fish have no reprieve from anglers and fish can be spotlighted and harassed until they bite just like at the last Guntersville tournament where everyone was pulling in 30 lb stringers bc they don’t care about the bass or the generations of people after them they just want the profits of a tournament. These large stringers don’t impress me at all I would be much more impressed with the guys that learn techniques to find and get them to bite from before FFS so basically yeah guys using FFS aren’t really fisherman they’re just cheaters. And I have a garmin head unit on my boat that can use it but I’m good with just my depth finder and looking for structure and half the time that’s not worth a hoot either.

... Used one yesterday, Maryland, water temp- 41" surface. Unlike some other blade baits that may take a short distance to feel the vibration when jigged, this lure does vibrate INSTANTLY when lifted. Thanks . Jeff .

Does the larger size actually help you pick up line faster? The 2500xh has 6.1 gear ratio, fixing it a retrieve rate of 34.5"/crank, where the 3000 is only 31.6". Honestly, that's the only thing holding me back from buying one (though I'm not sure how much 3" really matters)

The difference in preferences among anglers is wild. I'm the total opposite kf the power fishing jig guy in that I want the tiniest amount of stretch, more than braid, but less than Stren lol. I just find the stretch delays the hookset when there's a lot of line out. If i ever want stretch it's on the real close slams where the stretch absorbs some of the intial strike cuz i like a tighter drag to start. Once im hooked up i can adjust.

All of my spinning rods are St.Croix. One of the things I’ve always loved about St.Croix in the spinning department is the variety of blanks. Take the 7’10” ML Victory Crosshair for example. None of the other high end manufacturers were offering a rod with those specs when it was introduced. They probably still don’t. I got so excited when I saw that and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. As soon as I unsheathed that rod and held it out and gave it a test shake, I fell head over heels in love w it. It does what it was meant to do perfectly, which is to throw light hair jigs a mile but it also excels in several other finesse bass fishing applications. I currently own two and I’ll be getting another. I’m certain that it’s been a resounding success as they have expanded these blank specs to several other lines. If you’re particular about your spinning rods and want to step away from the cookie cutter offerings by most every other manufacturer, look no further than St.Croix.

Interesting idea and I can totally see why it would work Im gonna have to give thay a shot next rare occassion that Im using plastics to fish. Ive always been more into using topwater lures, crankbaits and especially jerkbaits, and inline spinners but Ive been trying to get into jigging more. My Grandpa was the king of catching largemouth bass and his go-to was an earth green crawdad jigged as slowly as possible. Ive seen him catch so many bass using those I couldnt have possibly kept count. He caught one that was just a few ounces shy of the State record but it was out of a private pond so it wouldnt have counted anyway.

Excellent information. There is one technique professional anglers do that simply is hard for me to perform. When a professional angler changes line size to change the depth range of a bait is difficult. Bass change depths during the course of the day. The sun comes up, with wind changes, the clouds go overcast, the angler moves to another part of the lake. All these factors affect the depth of the lure. Changing out line, is a slow costly procedure. I wonder is it just easier to change out preloaded reels. Each reel has its ratio and predetermined line.
