Delighted & Great to hear the refurbished engine running, such a pleasure. Well done Clair, Suggs and the team.

I wonder what caused the refurbished to refuse to start. I'm sure after a bit of fettling she fired up.

The late Fred Dibnah would have loved to be involved in that restoration as he restored and drove his Aveling & Porter roller. Jerry seems to make a song-n-dance out of a simple job.

I wonder what caused the initial controller failure. My first thought is of moisture build-up on or in the mica ring. Could be wrong.

Fabulous and very beautiful aeroplane. The repairs and restoration are top class, well done to all. I'm 74 now and have never been in an aeroplane of any kind, if I had an opportunity to fly it would be in a Gypsy Moth or an AVRO.

Brilliant - the skill of Andy and making the outer section of the boiler was amazing. Such a pity that these skills are dying out. Great program, Clare and the team are fabulous.

I'm beginning to wonder if Jerrys engineering skills are as good as he imagines they are. Turning a taper is quite simple.

Jerry is a bit over enthusiastic! Any engineer worth his salt would have measured the internal diameter of the bearing before tackling the shaft with a *file* Emery Paper would have been the clever choice, and at that you go very carefully. The proper job would have to turned the shaft on a lathe to clean it up then to fit a sleeve to match the bearing internal diameter.

I remember vividly those "Mechanical Horses" at the railway station, as a kid. But sadly I didn't realise they were withdrawn, until I was reminded of them, by someone, many years later. They were so versatile and what a fantastically tight turning circle they had.

I have only one question: How do you seal the two boiler flanges? I get it that they're fastened with 50 nuts and bolts each, but what's in between the two flanges? Surely can't be metal on metal, right?

Congratulations and respect for your accomplishments. I have a similar dedication. About 1988, I invented a track system to be attached to the popular 4 wheeler. So many times I found myself in conditions of; mud, snow and steep where the only other people were on skies or foot. Water was dealt with by propellers, paddles or pumps. Now I have a system that promises, hydrodynamic thrust from tracks that can take you to the bank to get cash for fuel. Overcoming the water problem, qualifies for deep mud and snow as well as brush and highway. Check my podcast on KZbin at; Iguana Amphibious Truck. Iguana

Don't make them like that anymore. The machinists that built the engine had no CNC lathes it was built by British craftsmen who knew what they were doing. My grandfather worked for vickers on any machining project you could name to ten thousand of an inch waste norm. I'd love this old crate!

Shame about throwing out the steering mechanism..it was easily repairable..metal spray the shaft and re-machine it..or even make a new one.
