A few things. If you're making a gusset specifically for crotch tear and you don't really care that much about aestetics, a smaller gusset will suffice and in fact work better. See crotch tear doesn't occur generally from spreading your legs. When you spread your legs, if your crotch is stressed, your pant legs will simply slide up your thighs to release tension. So what DOES cause crotch tear? Too much rise. When your crotch is sagging a few inches below your... special parts, what happens is when you step on a high step or do a lunge or lift a leg is that your legs scisor and tug at the seam of your crotch forward on one side and backwards on the other. That's why if you split your pants while squatting, it'll be at your butt, but if you split your pants while lunging, climing a step, kneeling, etc... that is because your pants are too baggy. at the crotch. So when it comes to a gusset, more times than not, you are only making the problem worse. as far as fit goes. Yes, by getting rid of the seam, you're less likely to split the pants at the crotch, but you will notice that there is no improvement in your range of motion. Scissoring your inner thigh will tug like it always has, perhaps even moreso. It just won't be as likely to tear your pants. It will not improve your range of motion. So what should you try instead? Take up the rise a smidge. For women, if you have the waist right and you have the rise tight, that's all it takes. That restores your range of motion, but with men, there's a... factor. We've got a bulge that isn't part of the moving parts, right? Well that is where a SMALL gusset can be necessary. Allow enough of a tension release to keep your junk from getting caught in the spokes. But like I said earlier, if you are adding a gusset, you are also adding to the rise of your pants at the same time. That's why you keep the gusset narrow (side to side). The narrower it is, the more it gives your dangling parts space WITHOUT effecting your overall rise. So perhaps just add a gusset that is... 2 inches deep, 4 inches wide (about half the depth and width of this gusset... or a quarter the size). Another thing, if you're making a gusset, you might as well make it out of an elastic material! If it's jeans especially, get on amazon and buy yourself some denim elastic. The overall best test for whether to adjust your rise or add a gusset. Kneel in your pants. If there's material being pulled tight in both directions on your crotch, MORE MATERIAL WILL ONLY MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE. If you kneel and you have that tug in the crotch, your rise is the problem. Don't believe me? Do this test. Unzip your pants a couple inches and pull them up to your crotch, and then kneel. Problem went away, didn't it? Fix your rise before trying a gusset.

Love gussets! They are great under the armpit too, for greater freedom of arm motion. (The little diamond shaped piece is called a gusset in sewing lingo)

Thanks bro for video, but you know, waste tape and spray is not necessary if you use iron clips (I speak in the name of ecology)
@alan4sure
@alan4sure 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and you actually think that will do anything for ecology and the environment? Every person on earth who sews could stop using glue and tape, and the environment would be exactly the same. No change. You need a dose of reality. Your idea is just another "feel good" thing that accomplishes nothing except give you a warm, fuzzy feeling.

@@alan4sure Listen: You say what we do has no impact on enviroment? Do I hear right? This is for my totally new thing when I see how people - inventors one by one changed the way how we live. But you are right about the warm feeling I have when I wear clothes I sew by hand using just old weaved linen and hand spinned aplaca wool which where made by people and animals near by - WITHOUT any garbage, not used material, no wrapping, no plastic, no rest materials. No material made from petroleum - "blood of the earth". How did you got your reality? From where it come from? Did you think about that before you wrote this comment? I see how people live 250 years ago, sewing everything by hand, coloring by plants, growing plants for fabric locally. When do you think our enviroment - surroundings got so dirty? Answers is last years, with the arrival of plastics, machines, sprays, complex chemical adhesives and substances, cars...as you use in your video. My reality is this: working with nature, animals, our future hand in hand, in win-win relationships. Not just go for myself: "I want to make pants, so I will do it as easy as possible, I am in the middle of the universe". I do not want to make you angry or say something I should not. I just see how big impact we have on each other, on the place we live. I am pretty sure if everybody would use iron clips instead of sprays or tapes (btw in your video I see it for first time in my life) the nature would say thank you to us in same positive way. I see it when I clean area in the nature from garbage...and after it looks just as big Thank you from enviroment - when I can drink water from nature which I could not drink before because of so much small plastic garbage and chemicals. That is my experience and reality. Have a good sewing and God bless you

@@hello_matej Everybody who uses spray glue to sew can all stop using it completely and it will make absolutely no difference to the environment. It is too insignificant, but the mere fact it is being used gives you a reason to harp away and keep your self righteous attitude. Sorry, I see right through most of the eco BS. You want to truly be green? Stop using all technology, especially computers, the internet and cellphones. It all requires mining, chemical production, petroleum products, huge amounts of electricity for all the server farms (which by the way need power at night and also when the wind isn't blowing.) Then you can really feel good about yourself, except you'll have no way to tell the world about it without all the technology.

@@alan4sure No one is insignificant. Without every drop to do its part, an ocean would be nothing more than a barren dried up wasteland. But you will go on with your sprays and glue. I am very sorry about it.

super great idea only thing needed for me now is an adhesive for those of us that don't know how to sew. I used to buy the diamond brand jeans till they went of of business, the most comfortable pants ive ever experienced I an a magyver individual just redone some lowcut sneakers into mid cut sneakers with shoe goo too badd they done hav e sometning similar for fabric so sewing wouldn't be necessary

Protip: Embroidery needles have a rounded, blunt tip and a larger eye, designed for easy threading. They are great for mending, and go through denim just fine. Since they push the threads making up the fabric aside instead of piercing thru, you also avoid weakening the fabric and causing future tears. Also look up "swiss darning".

I use Solidworks for 3d modeling. My welder is flux core, wire feed welder. It doesn't use shielding gas so it makes pretty messy welds but I grind down the welds afterwards and they clean up ok. Here's a link www.amazon.com/Easy-Weld-299-120-Volt-125-Amp/dp/B016R0FCSQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1512166720&sr=1-7&keywords=welder
