That's where you see Django Reinhardt was a real genius, not only of the guitar, but as musician. Each of his improvisations sang like crazy (you can whistle most of them) and even the top notch players of today, like Julian Page or Bireli Lagrene, who are amazing players, cannot convey the same melodical lines he could create on the spot

This was a television special in 1957. I had just turned 6. My dad only allowed jazz to be played in our home so of course I was already 0 a fan. When she walked out with those plaid capris, sweater set, and that pony tail, I thought she was just the cutest thing! My dad made the remark that she was so high, he couldn't believe she could stay on that stool. I was 6...I thought he meant the stool was too tall for her - I was worried for her throughout the entire song, lol. As an adult I realized what he meant.

The more I see of transcribed solos, particularly those of Lester's, the more I realize it's not what you play but how you play it that is important: the timing, the little nuances of pitch and inflection etc. As the song says: "It Ain't What You Do It's the Way That You Do It."

Great transcription! Is the tab an actual transcription of his left hand fingerings or generated from the notes (ie: the lick starting in bar 8 has the E alternating on the B and G string)?
@robinwillemsguitarist11 ай бұрын
Where possible, my guitar tablature transcriptions are literal transcriptions of the way in which the solo is played. Whenever it's not visible what positions/frets/fingerings are used, I try to hear where the string changes are, and I write out how I think the phrase was played by the musician.
