Very interesting. I have a question please. What direct influence did the royal family have on the design styles? Did they work directly with designers and "approve" the trends of styles? I can find little on what imput the royals had on design and to what degree. Many thanks these videos are very insightful.

A remarkable bit of workmanship. A truly stunning piece that would make any owner so proud to share with guests. This type of work just isn’t done anymore. A shame really. Today in the custom furniture world you are charged so much more for so little. All you get are ugly modern pieces without charm, function, or surprise. Thank you so much for sharing this Gillows masterpiece.

Gillows certainly built a beautiful desk with generous features. So much time went into the selection of materials and manufacture of this piece. Remarkable.

Thank you so much for doing these descriptive, insightful and inspiring, and very informative stories about fine English furniture. I make fine furniture now that I am retired, and just love to hear your enthusiastic descriptions of the furniture. You have a special way of doing this. I could listen to you for hours. Thank you.

I'm so glad you're doing a deep dive on this piece, it deserves it, and I'm looking forward to learning more. I can't help imagining all the bits and pieces I've gathered over a long life stored in those drawers. I don't know that I need secret compartments, at least not yet. Thanks so much.

On your website you have extra images. In those images there are little brass wheels of some kind. What is the function of those wheels?
@WRHarveyAntiquesLtd27 күн бұрын
Thank you for your e-mails and the centre door opens with folio dividers behind. The brass wheels are on the baize lined slide to ensure it retracts and runs smoothly. There is an image of the piece's back on the website . To lower the double rising top it needs to be raised slightly to release the easel stands and then lowered in two stages. I hope this is all helpful and the next 2 videos should further explain this magnificent cabinet. David Harvey

What is inside the little door at the center?
@johndeerman210529 күн бұрын
Stunning. Please take more time to show us the rest of this magnificent piece. What does the rear case work look like? How are the drawers in the cabinet constructed. What’s is the process for lowering the raised work space? What a wonderful design. Thank you.

Perhaps because I'm an admirer of Henry James, I can so see this elegant piece in Lamb House, his home in Rye. Were it mine, it would contain my collection of his works. With its proportions, and simplicity of design, it would work in so many settings.
