Nobody has ever played the game of tennis like John McEnroe. Theres a few that had better careers, but Mac was so unique, and so beautiful to watch.

Probablement le joueur le plus doué qu'il n'y ait eu...une carrière respectable, mais tellement decevante en meme temps vu ses capacités intrinsèques...Doués sur toutes les surfaces...Finalement l'image que j'en ai, c'est de quelqu'un qui a tellement de dons, trop doués qu'il ne sait pas comment utiliser tout ça...

In genere non apprezzo i confronti fra cantanti di lirica o di canzoni. Ma per GdS faccio un'eccezione! Molto tempo orsono lessi un parere di un critico che affermava essere stato GdS l'unico a cantare in napoletano con voce a mezzo fra tenorile e leggero. Raggiungendo così la massima valorizzazione della melodia. L'interpretazione si giovava poi della giusta pronuncia: su questo potevano gareggiare i cantanti c.d. veraci, ma senza quella moderazione nei tessuti vocali più alti, vanto di questo eccezionale tenore come si ascolta nel finale della Lucia!!😢

Che anni magnifici erano quelli per il tennis. Lendl poi, con il dritto e il rovescio sempre immancabilmente a 10 cm dalla riga di fondo. Sembrava una macchina

Più che altro ogni giocatore aveva un suo stile (in questa raccolta si vede benissimo: Connors, McEnroe, Edberg, Courier, Chang giocano tutti in modo diverso). Spesso si avevano partite in cui un giocatore da rete si confrontava con uno forte da fondo. Ne nascevano partite bellissime

@@francescovalente-jl5xd io amavo molto anche le partite tra giocatori simili. Ricordo partite tra lendl e wilander a Parigi. Duelli con punti eterni in attesa che l altro sbagliasse. Per alcuni sembravano noiosi a me commuovevano

@@lenzi243 C'e' stata una stagione, mi pare il 1991, in cui nel giro di poche settimane o mesi si sono alternati al numero 1 Lendl, Becker e Edberg. Secondo me quello e' stato il momento in cui hanno espresso il loro migliore gioco.

I saw Di Stefano circa 1962 at Carnegie Hall. As described by Corelli, his voice was round rich and beautiful. Much the same as he was on records except for the beautiful overtones in the theater. Unfortuanely, we will never see or hear anything like him again. R.I.P.

To me, McEnroe was a genius. I use that word because of the unbelievable raw talent that he possessed. Other players work and work and try and try and perfect their game over decades. McEnroe was just born great.

You only say that because you've never seen him practise. I didn't like him but saw him at practise a couple of times. Talent is never the only key to success, but always the one excuse to explain why we didn't make it.
