Can also increase the anger in them as well you project arrogance to them
@RickDelmonicoАй бұрын
Respect is so closely related to trust that you can't have one without the other. You can get compliance from authority or power but you need trust for true respect. Also If love is involved, the trust and respect are much higher. When solving difficult problems, respect becomes a gray area. All difficult conversations risk offense. If I only listen to you when it it a benefit to myself and when it isn't, I devalue your input, I am not in a mutually beneficial relationship, I am in a toxic relationship.

ya'll funny guys in the comments: if you responding to someone's angry confrontation by just looking at them means you get punched in the face, you were going to get punched in the face either way. so..

I had a guy chase me in November 2021 when I screamed at him for cutting me off and almost hitting the back of my car 🚗. It was a really scary 😟 situation and I’m glad I wasn’t hurt or no property damaged but more importantly that I was okay ✅.

I've tried for 5 decades ..... everything. This technic actually makes my abusers even more angry. Now days I just act like I don't care. Sometimes, I take a hot of weed and just let it bounce off the wall.

I don’t believe that at all, people get the idea that you're a coward and take advantage of it, the way i deal with it is show authority, confidence, and pay attention to everything thing around me, without looking nervous, that's how i trained for my job as a security officer, it works for me 99% of the time, if it doesn't i try to de-escalate the situation until the cops show up, the way people perceive you is what matter, if you show fear they'll take advantage of it, if you show strengths and confidence they will back off, the Darwinian theory still works. Breathing comes naturally by being calm and confident

If the anger is a fire, lower your anger to a frost.
@andrewjansen9702 Жыл бұрын
Basically, calm yourself down and think of your calmness as a gift you would like to give this person. But you have to have that gift of calmness to give it. You can’t give them what you don’t have.

Staring at them in silence (even smiling) after they've asked you a question could be taken as a direct insult, especially if they think you're smirking, and even more so if you have done something which warrants their anger. I feel this could work in some situations and aggravate others.

2:23 what? Thats eminently going to be followed up with " Hello? Did you not fucking hear me? are you stupid?" Source: fast food. People dont feel that discomfort when irrational or on drugs. "Thats life" What.... Thats a comeback youre gonna piss people off. The first rule of de-escalation is validation. What are going on about? I wanna know what you do for a living.

Fr the only thing you got right for handling another person (Not yourself and breathing is cool and all) Was maintain a calm demeaner.

I find this is bypassing. This method only uses our mind or head space to intellectualy think our way out of a feeling. We need to use our heart space to move through it by processing it and I mean all of itm . the only way out is in. Going into the emotion and deeply feeling it reveals personal truths and it allows it a way out. Like holding poop in. Doesn't work. N we can't wish it away with our mind lol. We deal with it. We let it out. To let p emotions out we need to see into their message n feel into it . usually strong emotions come up to reveal personal truths we have.

Hi Mark @Personal Development Perspectives, I've recently found your videos while beginning my own journey into personal development. It's been some time since you last posted. I was wondering, how would you say you have grown since making this series? Your conflict de-escalation video has been helpful, and I'm glad you took the time to film your thoughts; thank you for your efforts and I hope that life is treating you well.

I have a very long term cough. It's not COVID. I've had it for 30 years operations, drugs trials , you name it! I wear a mask and cover my mouth. I get verbally attacked by strangers lately on a regular basis. Today was bad. This is brilliant. I will try it next time and maybe post an update! I get tired of defending myself ...

Sorry but this is the worst advice ever. That pause, stare and the "that's life, huh?" will get you whacked - every time.

Another method is to use a completely nonsensical word or sentence that completely confuses the aggressor and often they'll either stop shouting while their angry brain is attempting to make sense of what you said so they will either adopt a more milder response or just walk away. I done just that, a neighbour who was storming up the hill to roar at me about my child finally standing up for himself against his children who were bullying him, just as he was finishing his sentence I shouted that my mother in law painted her house pink and green. His confusion was that bad he let out a huge sigh and just walked away. I really don't like confrontation and favour de escalating a situation because arguing back or using violence really solves nothing so I studied psychology and some mentalist tricks and in the 36 years of adulthood I have had many confrontations but had been involved in zero physical altercations so I guess I'm doing something right.

Very interesting. Good for you... seems almost like a "pattern interrupt". Another great tool for the box. Thank you for sharing.
@nemo95403 жыл бұрын
@@personaldevelopmentperspec4384 sometimes the aggressor may not be actually angry at you, for some even a mild slight changes to all out aggression because they've either had a really bad day or someone else has pissed them off and is projecting that anger on you so de escalation tactics really do help. However there is a sub section of angry people that are so irrational nothing can defuse the situation for example if you've taken their parking space or cut through a line in the supermarket psychologists call this sub section avengers. Some of this subset collect either a written or mental list of people who have wronged them in some way, some people have no idea they're on that list so when that person decides to act upon this list it often ends badly as often the punishment is way more harsh than a regular angry person. There's a fascinating article I'll post here. www.apa.org/monitor/2009/06/revenge

Yeah that's a very good technic. It's very important to remember that's a lot a lot mentally ill person out there. Sometimes people are not only mad they sick. Mental disorders like borderline disorder makes people go apes. In this scenario you should definitely step back not only because the person is mental and can actually hit in you in the face but because it needs medical treatments not your answers.
