The longer the stroke of an engine, the faster the piston speed must be to maintain a specific RPM. So for pure example purposes only, if you took two identical engines, but one had a 2 inch stroke, and the other had a 2.25 inch stroke, both engines running at 3000rpm, the 2 inch stroke engines piston speed would be 1,000 feet per minute. For the 2.25 inch stroke engine, at 3000rpm, the piston speed would be 1,125 feet per minute. The engine with a longer stroke has to move the piston faster to maintain the same RPM, because the piston has a longer distance to travel.

The 2.4 L uses a H section connecting rod as opposed to the 3.0 which has a more conventional I section connecting rod.
