Chinese people are not afraid of the police, and it is common to see people or drivers arguing with the police or asking police for personal assistance (such as asking a police officer to watch over a baby while going to the toilet, asking for directions, also students getting late will ask a police officer to take him to the exam by police car, etc... The Chinese call the police "people's police" because the police serve for the people. We trust and love and respect police. In addition, foreigners think that China has a "social credit system", but in fact this thing does not exist in China. This is another scam by the Western media.

People from different parts of China have distinct personalities. People from the north tend to be more outgoing and lively compared to those from the south, but overall, they are more relaxed than people from Japan and South Korea.

Imagine that it is one of the most representative ancient administrative systems in China, with extremely high historical and cultural value, and also receives countless tourists every day. The role of security is to protect the safety of tourists and historical buildings. Anyway, I don't want to see any saboteurs carve marks on the city walls or destroy these precious things. So security is very reasonable, isn't it? I think you're a bit overly nervous. For some reasons, it is obvious.

Hello Tomas, welcome to China, I get the feeling you're a bit nervous, but you don't have to be, if you're a friendly foreign tourist, you don't steal or rob, you don't do behaviors that are generally considered criminal in the world, then you don't have to worry about your safety at all, people will pay attention to you purely out of curiosity about foreigners. Of course, don't smoke marijuana, which is an illegal drug in China. Have fun wherever you want to go, enjoy your trip and welcome back next time.

Look, young man, a little blogger's reprint of your trip has received hundreds of likes. You missed a lot of good things and opportunities to become famous in China.Besides, you are not ready before you go. China is a cashless society. All payment requires only one mobile phone

Great news for travelers! China has extended its visa-free policy until December 31, 2025, for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg (source: Gov.cn). This is the perfect chance to explore China’s diverse and stunning destinations. While the big cities get most of the attention, don’t overlook hidden gems like Yunnan. This region is absolutely worth exploring, with its breathtaking landscapes and rich culture, including 26 of China’s 55 ethnic minorities. Plus, Yunnan’s close proximity to several Southeast Asian countries makes it a convenient and enriching stop on your travel itinerary. Don’t miss out on the unique beauty and adventure that regions like Yunnan have to offer!

I understand your nervousness. The feeling is similar to a Chinese person going to a western country and worrying about being racist, being stolen, or being shot at. Travelers are wondering why they often see police officers patrolling in Beijing or police vehicles patrolling in Xinjiang. This is because there have been many violent terrorist attacks that have caused casualties in Beijing and Xinjiang, and the presence of police cars and police vehicles can respond to emergencies more quickly and protect civilians from terrorists. As for the cameras and security checks you see are also for the same reason, to protect civilians.

I had been to forbidden city seven times and each time I learned something new about the palace. You need a tour professional English tour guide only for you to appreciate this gorgeous building.
be relax bro ,u look so nervous!!then people would think y r so weird!just be yourself

The reason people look at you is because you're walking around with a camera, nervous and unnatural, keep talking to yourself, and people everywhere are going to think it's weird🙃

Hope he could be better prepared next time to see more of China, not just as a 48-hour transit. His impressions seemed influenced more by inadequate preparation and preconceptions.. He didn't display curiosity at a new culture or new places, while narrating with a poker face personal problems and odd references to Korea. Calling his experience cultural shock is weird,.

I mean , why are you so nervous about the police and security guys ? If you don’t plan to commit any crimes just ignore them then . You seem to be in this “am I getting arrested “ mindset the whole time when you were in forbidden city . Relax dude , it can’t be that scary 😂

Older folks are most active in early mornings, they also sometimes sing, practice Tai-Chi etc. in the parks or public squares. If you want to get the freshest fruits and veggies at the best price, follow those old folks after they finish playing in the morning, as they will be heading to the local markets with the best deals (some of those markets are only available for a few hours for the morning senior crowds), there you can often find real Chinese farmers with their freshly harvested home-grown produce, and lots of authentic local breakfast items (ready to eat) at extremely affordable prices. Do keep in mind those markets can be quite crowded.

There's definitely some cultural shock when you visit a country with completely different culture and political system. Thank you for sharing the experience and providing all the first hand information. Personally I can understand their securities can be tighter than most other countries / tourist destinations, especially considering the geopolitical tensions with the west in the past years. Hope you find the trip offered unique experiences and enjoyments 🙂

Your fear of security is either rooted in actual threats or influenced by stereotypes perpetuated by Western media outlets like BBC and CNN. As long as you don't cause trouble, nobody has the time or inclination to care about you.

There are security guard not police, it's very simple because any little things happened there will amplifier in western media, will be described as evil , it's make authority headache , they just try keep nothing will goes wrong, there are lots powers want to discredit china, for example, American based anti china organization can pay someone to attack a foreigner to destroy reputation of china, which happens before.

Getting to know a unknown country best starts by observing its people. Look around at the Chinese folks here-the vast majority are warm, friendly, peaceful, and lively. Under a regime of high pressure and terror, people just can't have such a positive demeanor. So, you get me?
