Thanks . My father and his brother slaved on this for 3 1/2 years 80 years ago they were as good as dead when liberated and sick for the remainder of their lives. Its sad not many people know of the thousands of lives this bit of railway cost. Man is evil beyond comprehension and that is why we all need God to save us because there is nothing good in the heart of man.

video is exactly what the title says. Great filming, lucky that nothing passed by on the other road - the steam output really showed the work Braunton was putting in, there.

The going away cam is older than the main cam. This particular going away shot was poor because the strong wind blew the cam off its target so I had to zoom the image in to one corner - hence the poor definition of the image - Andy

I was disappointed with the video to be honest. The view at Joan Croft isn't great. The wind was brutal a blew the going away cam off direction. Spectacular smoke and I do like the Southern Pacifics, but as usual now in UK all is spoiled by the diesel at the tail of the train. How do they proceed in Germany for example to avoid such an horror attached on steam tours?
@AndyDandanFisherSteam
@AndyDandanFisherSteam 26 күн бұрын
The diesel does seem to be becoming the "norm" sadly. There are still a few tours run without a diesel but they're few and far between. I assume there's pressure from the authorities to have a diesel on hand "just in case". Also on a fast line like the East Coast mainline the diesel can offer faster acceleration to avoid delays to regular traffic - Andy

@winco68
@winco68 23 күн бұрын
Unfortunately it’s likely to be the norm going forward. Due to the mandatory implementation of central door locking on tours most of the stock now used is air braked, electric heating and air conditioned. A few steam locos can provide air braking but none have the elec heat or air con capability hence the diesel on the rear to provide this. Also as previously mentioned its extra insurance against late running or breakdown.
