You don't check facts, Poynter. You play games with context when stating facts, and you do that in an effort to manipulate perception. Worse, you report anybody you can who disagrees with you and who calls you out for what you are. You falsely accuse them of "bullying" and "being dishonest". In short, you project, because that's all you're capable of doing. Poynter, you need to close your doors and go get real jobs. I hear McDonald's is hiring, and you folks are surely middle class.

Jodi Kantor talked about the pain of listening to your own interviews. This of course implies that many if not most of her interviewing involved the use of an audio recorder, be it a smartphone or a similar device. This further suggests that she doesn't use the traditional notebook & pen. Or, if she does, it's most likely a kind of back-up to the recording of her source's remarks. And possibly used to note details of her surroundings and other non-verbal points of interest. In short, my point is that it seems audio recorders are fast supplanting handwritten notes. Not in every situation, but surely many. I rather wish we had smartphones back in my day, because the fidelity of their recording app is outstanding. And, despite the need for transcription, it frees the reporter from his or her own often indecipherable chicken scratching and allows them to listen better, with fewer distractions.

To me the big issue in journalism is the mistrust from audiences. I believe it's because journalistic outlets are NOT doing a proper job of maintaining objectivity/impartiality. Liberal or conservative voices and biases are palpable. I came through the ranks believing in and working hard to uphold journalistic objectivity. Present a fair, comprehensive, balanced report, stating the facts, not opinions or even hints of partiality. It's difficult to do because we're human. But it's nevertheless a hugely important goal to strive for. When done well, it earns greater respect for the given media outlet and its journalists, and serves the news consumer best, allowing them to draw their own conclusions about what they're reading/hearing/watching.

We have to recreate history through movies. We make a movie about a world full of black people and white people are African. Black merchants go and kidnap them from Africa. We reframe the stories on this basis. The inventor of Hitler, black Jews and black Jews. And make Africa inhabited by whites and owned by blacks so they could live the same feeling.

I was in the 6th grade in Alexandria, VA, across the Potomac from Washington, D.C.. I vividly remember watching the Watergate hearings live while in class at Groveton Elementary. I don't know why I am just seeing this video for the first time, but I am glad to have seen it now. I don't know what curriculum my teachers choose to jettison in order to watch the hearings all day, but few events in history, and I am a historian now (BA), are as impactful as the Nixon/Agnew and Nixon/Ford Presidencies. There is NOTHING like watching history in the making when you know it for what it is, particularly as a 6th grader.

That segment about the affordable care act tells you everything you need to know about Obama. The steely resolve. The empathy he has for people. That's what made him the best President in US history. Ok. Now I'll wait for the Obama haters to say something untrue and irrelevant.

Maybe it's time we revived the 1949-1987 FAIRNESS DOCTRINE and DEMAND licensed media to air BOTH SIDES of ISSUES as our journalists did once upon a time when we were the envy of the world. Seems like since then, we started paying for the propaganda on CABLE TV. like CNN, etc... think about it, we have been paying them to brain-wash US !!!

is she saying “pyrrhic” victory? what were the “awful” dissents she mentions? She’s one of my all time favorite people - just trying to clearly understand her meaning
@nspector3 ай бұрын
I didn't know the word "pyrrhic" before now, but it must be what she said given the definition: "(of a victory) won at too great a cost to have been worthwhile for the victor." Too tired to search for the decision now and find out what the awful dissents were. But it's probably not too hard to find that information, right. It's all public. (I came here to hear her voice and accent after watching some clips of Meryl Streep playing her in The Post. For me, a strange accent -- part NY and part....I don't know, upper crust? Almost British at moments.)
