Amazing version. Completely written for Alex to sing. Glad they collaborated, since the Fannies were the Big Star of the 90s.

Is there a chorus somewhere in this song? (The cover is pretty tru to the original I'd say in a good way). Love the song but just couldn't really identify one when I got to listening.

This song along with the “b” side of People Talk were recorded in 1984 and released in early 1985. I remember specifically because it was recorded right before Jimbo, Johnny, and Jack’s senior year of high school (they graduated in 1985). Anthony Bumpas was a year or two older. Our speech teacher, Mrs. Wade, helped them with the expenses of getting the 45 recorded and distributed in Corinth. If I’m not mistaken she and her husband were The End’s managers. I have one of the original copies of the 45 given to me by Jimbo Mathis. Wish I had the foresight to get it autographed. Jimbo has had a decent music career. Johnny is now a preacher, not sure what Jack is up to these days, but Anthony passed away a few years ago. RIP Bump! You are missed!

This is the song that made me totally fall in love with the Fannies (not that I needed much persuading) and Bandwagonesque the album that got me listening to Big Star. This is great - Alex expecting a stop after the first few bars by the sounds of it. Thanks for posting.

Damn. So superb! There would have been a real market for Alex simply taking over lead vocals of Teenage Fanclub at Age 39. Only weak part of TF's game are the lead vocals. And Alex seemed to like being in someone else's band without all the pressure (see Panther Burns).

The Spits have been around awhile and paid the dues. I've seen them play to 15 people and packed venues. Great fellas who thankfully didn't give up. I'll never forget first hearing them and the pictures of mohawks and moustaches skating in trenchcoat coats. Tremendous. Best merch tables, too.

HALLOW GALLOWS is Colin Ryan (Shine Bros), Ryan Rapsys (Euphone, Shine Bros) and Monica Barcicki (Jagoffs, Annie Hardy & the Psychos). They are a 21st century schizodelic rock group using confusion, anxiety, and nonsense to cause drama as they make their remark about the current day and age...or whatever.
