So am I correct in understanding that I could theoretically invest 100% of my income into a pension fund?
@nutsaboutmoney
@nutsaboutmoney 2 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment. Yes, you can invest up to your total personal income each tax year into a personal pension (or as a total across all your pensions if you also have a pension from a job). Just for a bit of clarification, for a sole trader that means how much you've made in profit (after expenses), rather than your total sales, and the limit per tax year is £60,000. Although if you have a pension open last year, you could also use any remaining allowance to save even more this year (and this actually applies for the last 3 years in addition to this year). If you run a limited company, you can make contributions from your limited company without this income limit, and your limit would be £60,000 per year. I hope that makes sense. It's always best to check with your pension provider too. If you haven't opened a pension yet, we recommend checking out PensionBee if you're self-employed, it's easy to get set up and use, and you'll also get £50 added to your pension for free if you sign up here (capital at risk): www.nutsaboutmoney.com/visit/pensionbee

Hey, thanks for your question. We think interactive investor is pretty great if you're looking for a wide range of investment options and low cost overall. Once you sign up, look to make employer contributions which can be set up as payments from your limited company. There's normally a special offer with ii for pensions (such as cashback) - you can check here nutsaboutmoney.com/visit/interactive-investor/pension If you don't want to make lots of different investments, and just want a simple and easy option where the experts handle things, and while still making contributions from your limited company, check out PensionBee. You can also get £50 added to your pension for free if you sign up here: www.nutsaboutmoney.com/visit/pensionbee Happy saving!

Hey, thanks for your comment. If you'd like the experts to mange things for you (often this is recommended for most people), we think PensionBee is a great option, as you simply add your money (or combine old pensions), and that's it, all sorted. Don't forget the £50 for free. If you're a bit more savvy with investing, and want to make a wide range of investments, we think interactive investor has a great pension option, as the fee is a low flat fee (alongside fees in some investments and fees to buy and sell), and it's easy to use. Hope that helps!

The SIPP fees is per month, Hargraves Lansdown is at 0.45% per month, it is 5.6% per year, that means if your investment doesn’t grow, after 12 year, 50% of it will be paid to fees.
@nutsaboutmoney

Hey Laura, thanks for your comment. Just to clarify the fees for Hargreaves Lansdown, they are on the higher side, and it's 0.45% per year, but you are charged per month. The fees can vary depending on how much you have invested on the platform and your investments.

@nutsaboutmoney
@nutsaboutmoney Ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Hargreaves Lansdown is a great platform, and is well established and trustworthy, but hasn't made the list on this occasion as the fees for a SIPP are on the higher side compared to the others, and it can be a bit more complicated to use. However, it could be great for you and other viewers, it all depends on how you'd like to invest, so it's worth reviewing all the platforms yourself too.

Fees are key here, Interactive Investor is best for portfolios over £88k due to their flat fee. I pay £268 per year for my sipp, ss isa snd gia given my total portfolio is substantial that equals a % fee of 0.028.....i also get free trades per month for my annual fee......pension bee cant compete with that

Shockingly low. £100,000 would only buy an annuity that would provide an income of just £6,000/year. For a minimum comfortable retirement, people will need £18,000/year. That means a pension pot of around £300,000. If you choose to retire during a period of high interest rates, then £100,000 will buy you less of an income, so would need extra buffer in the pension pot. As we can't predict the future, then people need to aim for a pension pot of £350,000 just to be on the safe side. People should also assume the state pension may not be there by the time they reach state pension age (currently 67, but will rise to 70). Remember also that average **healthy** life expectancy is age 63 in the UK. Do you really want to retire AFTER your health starts to deteriorate? People need to aim to retire at 55 or earlier to get a decent period of healthy retirement.

Hi Richard, thanks for your comment, and sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. Just to let you know, PensionBee aren't able to access your money, it's held securely with their investment partners such as HSBC, and all in your name and can only be returned to you. The partner's investment experts will invest your money based on the goals of the pension plan you selected (such as fossil fuel free investing), and this is the case with almost all pensions, whichever provider is managing your pension. In regards to PensionBee’s performance, it has been pretty great overall. And from our research and experience the BeeKeepers have been pretty punctual and are on hand to help throughout the day, via email, live chat or phone call. If you believe you have been mistreated, you might be best speaking to The Financial Ombudsman Service, it’s a free and easy-to-use service that settles complaints between consumers and businesses that provide financial services. We hope this clears things up a bit, and thanks again for your comment.

@@nutsaboutmoney The calculator page is good, and the defaults seem reasonable, but I think everything should be done in real terms with inflation taken out of the equation - on the other hand if you have your pension invested mostly in equities you should see average growth higher than 5% even after inflation is accounted for. So maybe a checkbox for "including inflation / real-terms values" would be neat. Also you should have a projection after retirement age section even if it is just the 4% rule (include state pension too). Also need a section to add DB Pensions.
@nutsaboutmoney

Hey @AgileSnowWeasel, thanks for all your feedback, it's super useful, and we'll look at incorporating these into the calculator. The 4% rule after retirement is incorporated into the figures currently, so if you're using the calculator you can have some confidence it will be enough income in retirement, but not as a visual projection. Thanks again.
