Oh, I've always loved anything rainbow themed. I will have to give this a try. Just to check, I'd just need to upload designs to Spoonflower in the original repeated pattern tile - rather than the smaller tile version that has been moved into the 'quadrants'..? I'll have to check out the other app as I have similar feelings regarding Instagram x

I love the intro, it's so upbeat and positive. I also like the clothing range that you sell - I might have to treat myself to something one day! Can you tell me the details of the stand that you use for your iPad please? It looks very handy. I currently balance mine on a cushion on my lap - it's not going to be good for me, long term x
@rebeccaflaherty14 күн бұрын
It's by Astropad and it's called a Darkboard. It's kinda pricey, but there aren't many products like it on the market so I guess they don't need competitive prices :/ The reason I got mine is to make lap/sofa drawing more comfortable! My neck aches after a while of looking down at my iPad, but with the dartboard it is a few inches higher so my neck is straighter. shop.astropad.com/products/darkboard?sca_ref=5537938.ghG6N6eTJ1&sca_source=Artist Tools (affiliate link!)

Rebecca, thanks for your videos. I was using a pastel palette I had created for an Easter project. When I used the violet range and inverted the layer, the darker colors in the design went to a charcoal gray. Any tips on how to choose the colors or advice on any colors that might not work as well in this process. Again, I’m so glad I found your channel because you’ve taken patterns to a whole new level!!!
@rebeccaflaherty14 күн бұрын
You can always try using a different blend mode. Some blend modes work with certain ranges of hues/saturations. You could also try flattening a copy of the layers you want to blend and try increasing the saturation on them to see if that gives you a less desaturated result when you blend them.

So which is better to upload to spoon flower or send to companies you want to work with.
@rebeccaflaherty26 күн бұрын
High res for spoonflower (They will reduce it to 150dpi for you) and low res for sending to prospective companies. Once you have a contract/payment with companies you want to work with then you can send them high res. Just as a bit of extra info...occasionally I've had a company that I had already worked with (and trusted!) ask me for high res files before we'd signed a contract (to use in mockups for presenting to their manufacturers/buyers) but they provided a "Promise Not to Publish" document to state that the files would only be used for mockups to present to buyers. (Just in case you ever come across that scenario you can know how to navigate it!)

You can use either to export high res, just make sure you have the correct settings. (I use procreate because I don’t use illustrator as much for patterns/illustration. But they are both good for different styles.)

What a lovely down to earth, mature approach you have, Rebecca! As a relative newbie to the Procreate world, I needed this breath of fresh air - most content on the subject seems to me overwhelmingly superficial and the paintings and drawings I see people make look the same.

What do you think about drawing individual motifs on a large canvas so they can be used for other purposes, then saving as a png without background and importing them into a final pattern? Would that cause quality to be lost as well?
@rebeccaflahertyАй бұрын
That’s ok if you’re going to build the pattern later in other software. I just don’t think I would ever build a pattern in procreate that way. Best way to find out though is to do a test and see if you’re happy with how it looks!

For pattern design for dress at red bubble. What is your canvas size?
@rebeccaflahertyАй бұрын
I use their pattern repeat for the dress so it kind of doesn’t matter what size canvas you use if it’s a pattern. But mostly it would be a 3600px pattern tile as that’s my go to size for everything anyway!
