The segment on the Mayfly reminded me that in Scotland, many years ago, watching the Salmon leap upstream, a ghillie remarked to me, " 'Tis just another miracle." I have never forgotten that.

A very nice tribute to fly fishing's historical past. Something, that unfortunately, is being tossed aside by our youthful anglers. The filming was quite well done. Thank you.

Hi Simon , Can you tell me did you purchase the sheepskin band around your hat or was it made for the hat . I’ve been tying to find where I can get on made and drawn a blank . Thanks Tim
@catchtheimage91123 жыл бұрын
Hello Tim, my hat is a genuine Australian Bush Hat made from Kangaroo hide. I Bought it nearly thirty years ago at the Romsey Country Fair. The thin strip of sheepskin came from an old sheepskin rug I had, I cut it up and used evostick to glue it round the crown. On the inside of the crown is a strip of self stuck tennis racket towelling grip, it helps soak up the sweat. Hope this helps. Simon.

@@timjames6190 Tim, So glad you like to watch the videos, my wife and I have great fun fishing, filming and producing them. However it will be a while before there are others uploaded because of the lockdowns I did not fish at all last year and have given up my rod for this year too. I am hoping to join a new small syndicate on the Dorset Frome for 2022 watch this space as they say! Tightlines, Simon.

Quite good, and nice idea, but disappointing. It could have done with some professional editing and would have been better at half it's length; sometimes less is more. The irritating presence of the copyright notice was unnecessary given the credits at the end, and the availability of ownership information written into the digital metadata. Ironic that the 'prince of fishers' and driving force behind the 'floating fly' should be invoked with almost a third of the film showing trout caught on a nymph. An at times, patronising commentary, with even an admission of a "perfect cast and presentation". Repetitive use of the same photos, dreadful fading-in of titles at the beginning, and over-use of (ridiculous) ghostly figures signifies a well-meaning but very amateur effort. G.S. Marryat was indeed a master, and Halford's tutor, but this well intentioned effort needed some professional input to truly honour one who was fly fishing's driver.

Watching this video from locked down regional Victoria in Australia, a day after our own trout streams reopened to angling, this has to be the best video on the chalk streams I've seen yet, absolutely brilliant work. And the thoroughness of your historical investigation is to be congratulated, the results being your own reward. A most enjoyable viewing, so pleased you went to such trouble to bring this to our screens. Thank you.
@jamesbury4754 жыл бұрын
Dear Mr. Ward, Thank you for such a pure breath of chalkstream air during this arid time. I always thought G. Marryat must be a great man having read Halfords acknowledgement in the preface of 'Floating Flies.' Now, thanks to you I know he is. Fascinating to see the actual flies he tied which speak volumes. Moving to see you with wreath at his headstone. What a Bonnet, what a Man. Many thanks. J. A.
