Could you make a mat using linen? I have an old linen sheet and was wondering if I could use that?

That should work really well as long as its not too thin. Again, make sure you use a protective topper on any mat you use 😊

What felt would you use for the wool side please?

Craft felt is great, and it doesn't have to be wool. You could also use an old tea towel or similar. Hope this helps 😊

I’m not so good with the rice mats and felt on top. The best by far for me personally is your eco mat that I bought from you nearly 2 years ago. It’s fabulous and tolerates my stabbing frenzies. 💕

Agree. They are great mats. The best thing about the rice mat is the ability to use every felting needle tool, including the 7 needle punch tiol. If you are mostly 3D felting then it doesn't matter. 😊 @dodosmamma1692

@@juliatinson2473 Hi Julia. I would go for around a 3mm flat felt thickness. I use 100% wool because it lasts longer but it doesn't have to be. The wool side will give it longevity but also allow one, two, or even three needles to be used. I tend to use this side for 3D felting, or small flat felt pieces that only require one or two needles. As with all felting mats, use a protective topper. You can also swap toppers around for light and dark wools. Hope this helps. 😊

@@janarnold9871 In that case I would start with the basic shape following the techniques in this tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKOkoKB9m5KFq7M and then build up the shape slightly for a more 3D effect with lots of layers. I like the box frames with the glass removed for this sort of project. Hobbycraft usually have a good selection, also Ikea or the home bargain shops. Hope this helps. 🙂

The biggest Ahaa moment right off the bat. I am not sure why I have never seen anyone use the skewer to wrap the wool around in any of the many guides and tutorials I've seen over the last year but I think this will be (Bee) the game changer for me doing needle felting. Thank you from the bottom of my frustrated craftful heart.

Thank you so much. Have a look at my mushroom tutorial. It will be a total game changer for you and I try and use it in my tutorials wherever possible. It takes so much frustration out of creating great, firm shapes. Especially if you don't want to use wire.🙂

@@lizmyers9862 Hi Liz They are just standard 2cm brooch backs. I think they are called bar brooch backs that you can stitch or glue on. You can get them in craft shops and on Amazon and Ebay. Hope this helps 😊

Hi my names Lynne and I’m 74. I’d seen these lovely little creatures for sale online and very pricey they are too. I had no idea how they were made. Today I watched your first tutorial on the herdwick sheep and I’m going to take up the hobby after watching your great tutorial which has enthused me. Ever ambitious I will eventually be wanting to make classic animals like your Hebridean sheep and foxes all sorts of rare breeds and woodland animals but I know I must start with something much simpler!! I never even knew i needed to needle felt... I'm such a craft junkie. I know this was filmed some time ago, but i do wonder if it would cut even less time, and add even more firmness to needle felt the shape periodically as you are rolling it. My brain is saying it would make the core even stronger.. 🤔 I will find out soon enough 😂

Yes, you can absolutely do that. I tend to roll a third and felt a little to secure. Repeat a few times and then felt more thoroughly.
