Because of the way they are aligned, run from enamel surface to DEJ longitudinally, so they might not be seen in L.S. If we want to see some structure in a section, we cut the section in direction opposite to it, so that structure can appear in section.. You can take example of growth rings, they run along whole length of tree longitudinally and but are best seen in cross section or transverse section of tree..
