Ngl, the first time I saw episode 1, I did notice the shovel head and it did take me away from the emotional gravity of that, otherwise riveting, scene.

I don't watch a lot of commentary tracks to tv-shows (so I'm not sure where Holness et al. got their inspiration, or what they are spoofing) with one exception, and I think the similarities are uncanny. I'm talking about Red Dwarf, and please hear me out before you think I'm crazy: 1. A bunch of British middle aged men, constantly bickering (who's got the most screen time, the most lines, the funniest gags, the best costumes, was in the best physical shape, etc), but a bit too often it seems honest and not just friendly banter (Chris Barrie and Craig Charles had a real life falling out, just like Garth and Todd supposedly had). 2. An air of melancholy and disappointment. While Red Dwarf was a huge success, it was not - as the young actors had hoped when the series started - a sign of even greater things to come (feature films, Hollywood, etc). Instead they eventually had to come to the realization that their careers had peaked in their early 20s, and they had to spend the rest of their lives touring sci-fi events. 3. Red Dwarf was a sci-fi drama but on a sit-com budget. There was a constant lack of money and short cuts had to be made during production. 4. (Slightly) sexist remarks about female cast members. 5. Needlessly pointing out "that's a model" or "that was a great model" on multiple occasions. 6. An honest reference to Ridley Scott (pointing out that a location would be good enough for Aliens). I'll add more as they pop into my head or feel free to contribute!

Dean Learner saying, "That's a model." every time they show the hospital exterior is quite annoying. It's clearly NOT a model, and I don't find him saying that to be even slightly humorous. Not one bit.
