I thoroughly enjoyed Wild is the Witch. I love the Valdemar books. Magic's Pawn is my favorite book of all time. I have read the first 3-4 books in the Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike as well as Remember Me by him (recently learned it's a series, but I read it when it was the only one out and wasn't advertised as a series starter?). Someday, I will read the Mistborn series. It's my sister's favorite series, so you'd think I'd have read them by now, but nope... Because I'm a slacker...
@TheHexedLibrary46 минут бұрын
I've got the trilogy that Magic Pawn is a part of on my shelves now, hopefully I'll get to them by the end of the year. The Mistborn trilogy is really good! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it because high fantasy by men is often times very dry for me but I loved it!

I loved the Mercedes Lackey books! They were ahead of their time, adored them as a teen and can’t wait to hear your thoughts 😊 Personally my favorite herald main character from her books was Vanyel.
@TheHexedLibrary20 сағат бұрын
I read them either last year or possibly the year before? I can't remember. I won't say who my favorite character is, but I will say I've read two of her trilogies and both times my favorite character was killed in the 3rd book. So the fact that I'm even still willing to read her books......

OMG! I haven't even watched the video yet and am so excited! Valdemar! It has it's ups and downs but given how long ago it was written it was so progressive and had influences on future fantasy. I have nostalgia for that series since I read so many of the books as a teen.

I’ve never heard of this series it seems interesting
@TheHexedLibrary50 минут бұрын
My 17 y/o is reading them now and she says "The beginning and end of each book is fun but the middle is boring. I skip around a lot." which I've said for years that while I did enjoy the series, in comparison to things I've read since then it was fun but probably could have been 5 books instead of 12.

I like Magic Bites, but I don't love it. I think it's one of those where the books get better as the series continues. It's very obvious a first book. I love the Mercy Thompson series though. At least, the ones I've read so far, which I think is the first 4 or 5. If you like Mercy, try reading her other series Alpha and Omega, which deals with the werewolf enforcers, Anna and Charles. Anna is from an abusive pack, so if that's triggering, fair warning, but that series starts after their relationship has already started, and they are such a good pair. It's a completely different series in style and plot, but worth it. I read a lot of urban fantasy and paranormal romance, but I don't have a lot of recommendations off the top of my head because I've been on a historical romance/contemporary romance kick recently. You chose some good ones. Laurell K Hamilton is another people talk about, but I wasn't a huge fan of the Anita Blake, Vampire Slayer series. They were OK, but I wasn't in love with them.
@TheHexedLibrary8 күн бұрын
I've pretty consistently heard that the Magic Bites series gets better as it goes on but as I don't recall anything from the half of a book that I read, I didn't feel like it'd ever make it to another book hahaha. I will definitely check out more by Patricia Briggs once I'm fully into Mercy's series (I don't want to get them mixed up). I've read the Anita Blake series up to about book 9 or so but it got too *weird sex* for me so I bounced. The first couple of books that were more detective forward were really good but then it just kind of became "how many people can Anita have sex with in this book?" and that's just not my vibe.
@SDHegyes8 күн бұрын
@@TheHexedLibrary that was one of the reasons I didn't bother continuing the Anita Blake series. I heard it got that way. I was already a little pissy that she became such a hypocrite in the first book, adamant she'd never be in a relationship with a vampire and not even a single chapter later jumping the bones of one. If I think of any more really good paranormal romance, I'll add another comment. If you want urban fantasy with less romance and more magic, I highly recommend the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. They do build a romance over time but definitely don't start out that way.
