What depth are you in there? Do you have any starting points to fish off 1770. Meeting a mate there for a week. Hope to get out to reef at least once. Cheers
@martysmissions8009 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, the most common depths I fish up there are between 50 and 70m. I live on the Sunshine Coast and my boats in 1770 which I probably won't get to for a couple of months to get marks. There's heaps of reef up there, have a look on Navionics or Bathy Maps to find bommy's and you'll find the fish.

What is the rod and reel combo mate?
@martysmissions8009 Жыл бұрын
Hey Mate, the rods are mainly Shimano Game Type J's in the PE5 model. The light grey reels are Shimano Tranx 400 they do come in 300 if you want a smaller reel or I've also been using the grappler reels which I'm really impressed with. I personally don't like reels without the line guides.

Great content,going to give the zereks ago next trip,what size line a reel are you using.?Handles the trout well.👍
@martysmissions8009 Жыл бұрын
Hi John, definitely give the Zereks a go if there's trout around. The light grey reels are Shimano Tranx 400's with from memory around 50lb braid on them which is heavier than I would like but what I had to put on to fill the reel, the darker grey reels are grappler 300's with I think around 40lb braid. Really give the prawns a good flick and I like to let them sit on the bottom for a couple of seconds between flicks, just make sure that it has a bit of slack or it will drag and snag you up. Good luck, I hope you get into a few.

Is there are reason you use bait caster style reels compared to traditional spin reels, is it a better feel of the lure or control of the line? What are the rods you use ?
@martysmissions80092 жыл бұрын
I do like the feel better, I like being able to thumb the reel for extra drag and I find it easier when dropping down lighter lures. The rods are predominately Shimano Game Type J's and there the PE5 ones.

Hi Barrie, the rod's are Shimano Game Type J's and they are the PE 5 models. Some people say PE 3 rods give the lure a better action but I'm fishing where there's a chance of a big red and it gives me more chance of stopping them.

Marty when your looking at the screen, are you watching the lure or can you actually see the fish?

Hi Mate, I keep an eye on both. You won't always see your lure if it doesn't quite go through the beam of transducer but I like to know where it is in the water column and sometimes you'll see the fish swim up to it. I have the plotter running on one screen to so I'm constantly watching that to see how my drifts going in relation to where I seen the fish too.
