Incredible breakdown of this epic break up song. I couldn’t tell if this was just a random mishmash of other songs or had a larger purpose.

Fantastic analysis of a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for this video. I recently made my own piece of art heavily based on this song and the painstar concept; I may cite this as a source in my written assignment about it.

Stars is SUCH and improvement from Minds from a lyrical standpoint. There's just too much pseud nonsense in there. Like, "the leviathan was powerful and inevitable." First of all, are you sure about that? Second of all, relevance? Then he yells sorry in Hebrew like it makes him cultured or smth. Kings 19 goes kinda hard tho. Also, if you're gonna play a song with lyrics in the background, you need to mix it REAL low or else it gets hard to hear what you're saying

i really want to watch this video but my extreme tism is NOT letting me focus on what you are saying with the song playing in the background the dual vocals are really fucking me up :(
@jakii3621 Жыл бұрын
I feel like the writing in the third movement refers to the listener when he says “let me tell you what happens when you touch it” implying that the slow part and the 4th movement is all what it’s like to touch the painstar/he is showing all of the pain he went through

Note the acoustic guitar uses the same rythmn as the original chord progression making it congruent with the I feel so haunted melody. It's important to recognise that the two different chord progressions are ruthmicallt tied.

Great video and analysis! I agree with a lot of the points made, but I think that cliche is in reference to the open/over grave sections. Will is falling into a repetition, or a cliche, where he keeps burying his emotions only for them to resurface. Will wants to escape this cycle, and asks questions on how avoid the looping feelings. Will rolling the stone over the grave is him giving in to the repetition, once again burying the emotions that will always come back. Overall great video! Hope to see more of you soon

wow, awesome video! so glad i clicked on this in my recommended. in reference to the line at 31:35, i always read rolling the stone over the grave as a more direct bible reference (the burial of Jesus). i think this also works well with the following line, showing a distaste for jesus that plays off the mention in the outro of nervous young inhumans. now that will has had the time to reflect back on his experiences, perhaps his journey in self discovery has lead him to some other famous prophet. may be taking it a tad too literally though lol. ty again for such an amazing vid and best of luck in whatever future ventures you embark on!

19:46 i saw something else in this line that i like to imagine is the intended meaning. the "dont predict your death, cause i like you the best" line to be specific. throughout the album the lines "the ocean washed over your grave" arent literally about dying its about a memory and the past, and i like to see this as a similar comparison. "dont predict your death" is referring to wills own memory of the person and love for them, their "death" is more about will forgetting them and not caring. so "dont predict your death" is telling his partner to not think that he doesnt care or that they will just become like the rest of his past relationships, because "i like you the best" is saying that out of all of his relationships hes had this one is his favorite one. i dont think the line is about literal death, more just a reassurance from will to his partner that is basically saying "i wont forget you and you were better than anyone else has been." of course this is just my personal thing i dont know if this is the exact meaning but this is what i always got out of it, referring to past relationships as deaths like in the whole "the ocean washed over/open your grave" line thats repeated. death isnt literally dying its being forgotten and not cared about. "dont predict your death, cause i like you the best" is a final reassurance from will to his partner that they werent like the rest and they were more important than they think. and of course the next line being about their art is reassuring things that he did love about them and why they wont "die" in his mind. just my thoughts but its how i always thought of the line and wanted to share

Doing such important work here thanks! Watching your stuff has reignited the song writer in me and has encouraged me to think about music critically again. None of my friends can stomach my interest in cshr lol, I gotta apologize when I have the aux, I had forgotten how important the music was to me.. Also, as a side note, it's hard to hear your voice in the parts of the video that will is singing at the same time, the music is loud but it's not super distracting- until will starts.

i'm gonna probably leave multiple comments if i don't do this so i'm gonna list thoughts while watching: 1. thank you for doing an analysis i listen to the full song every time it comes on!! 2. I thought it was interesting to hear the first interpretation of "the ripping of the tape hurts my hears" as i've never actually taken that lyric literally. I always thought it meant that the tape was what was holding them together, and him finally accepting the end of the relationship (ripping the tape) hurts him and especially his ears because he doesn't like the way it sounds. But the cassette thing makes sense too! 3. I HAVE A THEORY ON THE I REMEMBER YOU LYRIC: maybe it's that he's thinking of his partner before he created such an idealized version of them; the "fantasy," and it's him accepting that that's why it ended? He's reminiscing on the beginning where he didn't idealize the partner maybe but now it's the end so he can only remember that time and not experience it. They had a body, SEPARATE from his. Idk if that makes sense but yeah 4. i bet your english teacher LOVES you. your explanations are so well thought out!! the beatles thing was really interesting 5. THE PAINSTAR/MTM CONNECTION I DIDNT KNOW THAT OMGGG that's so cool i love his lyricism 6. the thoughtfulness you mentioned during the piano part reflects the mirror to mirror/face to face version so well (oops you just said that too lol) 7. this is making me want to get back in to music theory again youre so knowledgeable i miss it final thoughts: this was an AMAZING analysis. I could listen to you talk about this alllll day long. this is being added to my favorite videos folder (along with the maud gone with banjo version). Please continue to make these videos !! I'll definitely make sure to check out your music too/go on the discord. I have a car seat related server rn too (This is kind of embarrassing but you're evidently a nerd so it's fine). anyways THANK YOU FOR THIS MASTERPIECE. sorry for the long comment. tldr: great

I’m gunna respond to each thought cause I thought I’d be fun 1. No problem my pleasure :) 2. I love this line cause of the way you can interpret it how you like i think a lot of car seat lines are great like that 3. That makes sence that’s great wish I could put that in the video now lol 4. No Lmaoo I’m dxylexic as fuck and don’t talk, teacher I had last year was good but the one I get a new one after summer and I am very nervous 5. I’m slightly confused as to where is the referring too cause there are a lot of references to those in the song lmao if your talking about the chorus then yh it’s fantastic lyricism I’m glad he repeats it in the piano part cause it gives it both the passion and the weight it deserves. 6. Ye it’s the part of the album thst I think first that the best and most directly with just how drastically different it is from the original 7. I can’t even read sheet music lmao Please don’t listen to my music lmao I have an album out soon that will hopefully be ok but the only thing I have up now has horrible vocals lmao, and no problem the comment was great

haven’t watched this yet but just dropping a comment while i remember to- car seat headrest is my all time favourite band and while i have spent hours analysing the lyrics i am completely lost when it comes to actual musical theory, so i love love love hearing someone who knows what they’re talking abt analyse it. ty for these videos <3
