The Bugatti T-57 SC Atlantic in his collection is a genuine chassis with a replica body made around 1970 in Belgium, ine of something like 14 replica Atlantic bodies (exact copies) made by this carossier. He has had this car on his show and stated this. It's no secret - further, it is usually visible in the background during the part of his shows done in the garage. Secret? NO.!

The Marinia was a stop gap design intended to be in production and on sale while BMC was developing more modern designs. As such it was only ever meant to be built and sold for a few years but because Leyland, after it's takeover of BMC, terminated the new designs under development by BMC, the Marina was forced to soldier on in to the early eighties. Whilst it had a reputation for rusting, its rusting was no worse than its Ford and Vauxhall competition. The only flaw the Marina had was it used outdated lever arm dampers as part of of the steering and front suspension geometry and when these wore, road holding and steering deteriorated. Leyland however later redesigned the front suspension to use telescopic dampers which cured those deficiencies.
@EVISEHАй бұрын
"Only 6 Marinas still plodding along British roads". That must be surprising to the several hundred Marina owners in Britain still plodding around the roads What other numbers and "facts" did you pluck out the air to support your rather ridiculous assertion. Clearly the eight cars you've listed are cars you personally dislike, but there's no evidence to support your contention those cars were universally and widely hated, indeed the sales figures for each car show that they were not. Were they so hated and despised as you'd have us believe, they wouldn't have sold in the numbers that they did.

The American accent says all you need to know about a film poporting to be about British cars. Unfortunately there are so many such posts out there. My sister had an allegro, it was a real crocodile. I had a Marina, it was just as bad.

What went wrong? 3 of the eight came out in the '70s and one I'd never heard of so couldn't hate. Where was the quick-rot Hillman Minx series 3? And the Marina wasn't that bad. I knew several people who had them in the 80s as dirt cheap, easy-fix basic motoring. Two were brush painted (loon pants purple and a dark green) and both ran and ran.....until the rot got 'em.

I don't agree , the BMC / BRITISH LEYLAND farina bodied cars = ie the morris Oxford, austin Cambridge, wolseley 16/60, riley 4/72 , MG magnette, were hugely popular cars with comfortable interiors, large boots , duo tone paint , they could be found on every street, exported world wide and as knock down kits , and the Cambridge and Oxford could also be bought in estate forms. And the morris Oxford and wolseley 16/60 were still in production well into 1971 , that is not a hated car. it's quintessential England at its best.

Drove a Morris Marina for 3-4 years delivering newspapers. Fantastic car, heaps of room for me and the dog and could load 100s of bundles of newspapers in it. Only one fault that annoyed me!!!! didn't like starting in cold or damp weather IN ENGLAND!!. The one or two hot days we had in Wiltshire was a dream. Love to Cindy, my very capable copilot of many years ago.

Do you know what is preposterous? This video! Of the 8 cars you claim were the "most hated British cars of the 1960s", one is actually German (albeit with a British engine), several may have been conceived in the 60s but were actually only sold in the 70s, and you mention the Riley twice (it may have been updated, but there was no fundamental difference).
@normandunckley3926Ай бұрын
1.00 -1.04 Is not a Riley - that's a rehashed/modified Austin Cambridge A60 ( well done though, bumper over riders, and chrome work not in keeping with time period). BTW the Austin A40 - 1961's Americas No2 most loved "import" after the VW Bettle. 1961 popular mechanics & 1962 Popular Science ( I have the copies here). So much so, it's where VW used its concept to create/develop the Golf/rabbit. Considering they sold 1.2million Marina's they couldn't of been that hated.
