What a beautiful, courageous and dignified woman Ms Scales is! I also adore her impish sense of humour and the way she interacts with her husband, who must be a special person indeed to have won the heart of so wonderful a lady. God bless them both!

Those folks who campaigned for the canals and the army of volunteers that rescued the canal system for future generations back in the 60s and 70s will be remembered for their vision and dogged perseverance..the tireless efforts of those who followed them have continued their vision through to today 2024..to paraphrase Churchill's speech about the RAF.."NEVER HAS SO MUCH BEEN OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW"!!!.❤️🇬🇧

@jeanettedevereux7664 they've done so many series on tv, not sure if they're available on catchup somewhere? Great Canal Journeys.

I'm certain that Pru wouldn't mind that everybody on Earth can't skim through some videos without being repeatedly told that Pru has difficulties remembering things. I find it handy to be told again & again because I'm having difficulties remembering things. I dunno about never a railing for those holes. I suspect maybe a railing and then somebody realized it's a major safety hazard in a boat for accidentally sticking an arm through, and removed it rather than solid facing it. Locomotive 7822 Foxcote Manor, I recall from my Ian Allen trainspotting book in 1960 that "Manors" & "Halls" were quite rare prestigious ones at Wormwood Scrubs Old Oak sheds to record in the book.

I was along the Grand Union 1961 sometimes Perivale, usually Park Royal factories & Old Oak Railway sheds past Brent Crossing aquaduct at 8:48, not shown and I don't blame them. My Dad, his Mum, my sister, her son all buried in Kensal Green at 10:20. I'm Canadian since 1973 so I'll be different. Beautiful Listed Heritage gasometer at 26:09 reminds me of my Mum's Heritage gas stove. I never realized Kensal Green Cemetary was right next to Wormwood Scrubs where I was born & grew up (Alan Rickman too). They didn't show at 26:18 they painted the oher 2 1867-1880 gasholders white and built 3-floor circular buildings inside them. I bet those cost a pretty penny top own or rent.

At 32:40 Sonja Rolt worked at Hoovers the white Art Deco building on the Western Avenue A40 in Perivale near the Grand Union Canal. I was around there a lot 1956-64 because I was born & raised 3 blocks from East Acton Station on the Central Line bottom of the A40, Horsenden Hill & the canal tow path there was the start of the country outside London.

That's the Life, relaxing on a boat & beautiful scenery and getting the Missus to shove all the things & crank all the handles. That's the Life. I only remember the grungy Grand Union Canal in Harlesden & Park Royal factories 1960-1964. Fun for pellet gun fights in the Pill Boxes sure. I wonder whether Kirsten Elliot is related to Miss Anne Elliot who greatly disliked Bath and her Dad the Baronet and the caddish cousin, she has the Elliot countenance.

What a lot of folks don't realize is the canals in the UK are just the half of it... there's a type of boat called a WIDE BEAM that is double the width and in the right weather conditions and with the right planning can sail across the channel from Ramsgate to Normandy and you could cruise around Europe..go on KZbin or Google widebeam canalboats for sale and see what I'm on about!!.❤️🇬🇧
