I'm so glad I came upon this. The company I work for has me working with people in Canada and I feel I should respect them more by at least trying to learn what I can. I've also found that there are some places that in order to speak English you must have some kind of specific exception. Thank you

I agree with the observation about gross garglers. I hear this with rien very often., a really exaggerated gutteral sound. When once i did it, a French person told me I shouldn't!
@SimplyFrenchOnlineАй бұрын
Exactly - I am with you. It does not sound very nice, But we all have a choice and therefore our gargle level!!! 😂
@rolandhawken6628Ай бұрын
You vids are quite helpful ,but why can't any teacher on French vid cut to the chase ?
@SimplyFrenchOnlineАй бұрын
Thanks - to answer your question, to give free content and help people, we do need to mention who we are and draw your attention to how you can learn more from us. You say 'cut to the chase' and that is like "how long is a piece of string?" In my extensive experience, one person wants it super sort, another has no idea what you're referring to! So it's all relative. that said, I hear you and will make sure I cut the lenghty parts that might be deemed 'long'.

i think i have master the r sound now. There are some French people who really exaggerate it, eg in words like rien! I agree that the hardest words are serrure, serrurerie, (verouillé is easier) rouille et rouillé
@SimplyFrenchOnlineАй бұрын
I totally agree. All ages, all sorts of people. They all have their personal way of saying it. So do we!

Great video, once again. Good tip about the naturalisation process and needing to know the Azerty keyboard. I have a microsoft based laptop and have French and English keyboards but rarely use the French one because it is so difficult. But there is a English INTL keyboard which solves the problems of umlauts and accidents. it is essentially a qwerty keyboard but shift + certain keys before a vowel needing an accent adds it. So much easier. That said i have not worked out how to type 'crushed' oeur as in manœuvre , called a ligature.
@SimplyFrenchOnlineАй бұрын
Interestingly, the crushed letters are no longer deemed obligatory, so they can be avoided.

Hi Angelo - you're welcome any time! The point of my groups is not to rattle on fast in French, but to enjoy talking, listening and being with lovely other learners who are equally committed. We laugh, we learn and we all make a great team! It's the people element that is just as important as the learning! If you want to know more, just contact me on [email protected] and it will be a pleasure to 'show you around' - virtually!

I have acquired a second second language late in life. (My native language is English, then French and thirdly, Spanish). It is definitely possible to speak other languages later in life. It's simply not true that only young people can learn languages. It takes practice and commitment, it is 90% practice and 10% "ability". I am not more gifted for languages, I just love languages and so I am motivated. I am on my way to finishing a degree at university majoring in both languages. Ignore ageism! We need more videos like this to bust the myth that language-learning is only for the young.
