If Maxen was smart, he'd have done what Miami University did and simply use the money the Rebels brought in to build his academic utopia and not destroy the only thing that brought any recognition to the school. He cut his nose off to spite his face.

I miss what UNLV Basketball 🏀 once was, especially between the Mid 80’s and Early 90’s at their Peak of Greatnesses under the Late and Legendary Jerry Tarkanian aka “Tark The Shark” 🦈 Powerful and Hateful People took away our Coach, destroyed the chemistry and recruitment of the Rebels and eventually even took our Mascots Away too. 👎🏾

Ahhhh so UNLV fans would understand what michigan and Jim harbaugh are putting up with. People can't only stick up for THEIR school or favorite coach.

I’ve thought about that very thing during Michigan’s run and think the parallels between them are rooted in overcoming on-field/on-court adversity by way of personnel absence due to NCAA suspension along with accusations without the offer of real proof. Both are extraordinary feats. Conversely, the long-time harassment Coach Tarkanian suffered at the hands of that institution and his own university was far beyond anything any other coach has had to endure in any sport at any time, and will probably remain that way.

I just discovered this. Thank you so much. As someone who used to stay up late to tape the games off channel five (Chikcy Baby and later Sonny Vaccarro called them), who bought and owned the single of Runnin Rebel Fever as a kid, and who really grew up on UNLV basketball, this really means a ton.

It seems like everybody wanted them to lose of course they had a swag like no other in college b ball one of the coolest sportsmanship i every saw was when they played LMU the year before during the introduction of that game when they went over to Paul Westhead and shook his hand giving their respect to Hank Gathers now that was very classy but the media called them thugs hoods ignorant all of the negatives right on REBELS🤘🤘🤘🤘

i'm in LA, and got into unlv in the mid 80s because their home games were on channel 9 here. but those LMU teams were like UNLV on steroids,. i thought they were great. they're the only college basketball teams that i ever looked for their games on the radio (they weren'pt on tv). they were on kxlu, campus radio. i loved the lions then, so imagine how i felt when the only team standing in the way of LMU getting to the final 4 is.......unlv. why??

You know, the NCAA under Walter Byers and his thugs aren't angels, but their job was to keep college sports clean and out of the influence of the element that want to fix the results, etc. The one guy at the end of this show who said that _everywhere_ Tark went, the universities got in trouble and that's pretty damning. It takes two to tango and, were I Tark intent on giving inner city kids a break, I'd be a little more open to cooperating with those assholes from [then] Shawnee Mission. But, sure, he got $2.5 million from them and a bunch of kids got bumped along the way and came up short. Also, this show has a lot of UNLV fans talking about "greatest coach ever" and great UNLV teams and players who achieved success in record time. They sweep a number of of programs under the carpet who worked hard and did not take the "shortcuts" that Tark did. All programs get nailed for infractions and take their lumps. They don't end up in running gun battles v. the NCAA. How about UCLA with Wooden's 10 titles in 12 years? How about Kentucky's titles? North Carolina? Duke's? UCLA hot sanctioned a bunch for Gilbert and they stopped him. Harrick got fired by UCLA for failing to call out a recruit being treated to a free dinner - and this the after he won't UCLA's 11th title. Gimme a break. Tark took shortcuts and got caught. So he whines like a bitch.

Bitter much? Every program you named at the bottom of your convoluted rant committed major infractions on the regular right up until the past decade but were never cited for them. If they were it was a wrist slap, hence, selective enforcement. Thanks for reinforcing Tark’s point/theory/argument/battle/fight/war. History looks more fondly upon Tark and his teams, which apparently chaps your ass. Good day, sir (or madame).

It wasn't just taking on the NCAA w/ their selective rule enforcement rife w/ hypocrisy and such. That was part of it. Embarassing the brass. But it also had as much or more to do w/ this nobody desert college, located nowhere out west, who has begun routinely embarrassing the traditional marquee powerhouse basketball programs of the east. Ruffled ALOT of very influential feathers.
