Hello Stephan.. I have more questions for you: When do you decide between sweeping via a technical standup with their leg on your shoulder versus using x-guard sweeping them over / around you and then rolling into side control/mount? Thank you, LLAP
@StephanKesting
@StephanKesting 2 сағат бұрын
My heuristic is that the standup sweep from X guard is usually the first default attack. Every other attack is either opportunistic (ie he gives you the opening and you see it), or it’s a response to his response.

also just to add on to this. in octopus half guard the same movement can be used. also if someone has side control on you and you push his elbow away marcelo garcia teaches an escap from there. also bernardo faria in deep half guard he goes for the faria sweep but if they move all their weight to the other side and you cant sweep them then it opens up the turkish get up 😌 its a very good movement 👍

Just had my hip replaced (resurfaced) 1 week ago, this guys description of the first week is similar to my experience so far, except I was told by the doctor to not do the exercises that he did right away (no leg abduction at all, no bridge/plank, only 75% weight for 6 weeks). Also Tylenol was fine for my pain, most of the pain is when you try to move, not much when sitting still. But 1 pain pill at night helps tremendously with sleep. DO stay in the hospital overnight. Even though you won't sleep well, the first 24 hours are pretty rough and the pros of the hospital outweigh the cons. I personally had super low blood pressure the first ~24 hours and could not stand up more than a few seconds because of it, apparently this happens in up to 90% of cases. I felt ill the first couple of days, just completely drained, but there was steady improvement and now at 1 week I feel significantly better and things are improving steadily. It's so weird when the joint pain is just magically gone, but it's replaced by different pain. I would describe it like not working out for a year, then doing a million squats. The muscles just hurt to use, especially at first. But it's improving every day so far.

At first I'd always watch this seminar style videos from famous trainers, with hours of advanced content, but I never actually found them very helpful and maybe that's just my level. But I love that your videos are foundational, simple and effective. You can apply these things right away and don't need crazy follow ups to finish them or counter your opponent's counters. I also like training almost exclusively BJJ that also keeps an opponents hands busy (or far away) for self-defense situations. I actually find it kinda crazy that people often say that guard isn't good in the streets. I get it, you don't want to go to the ground in-case there are multiple attackers, but what if you fall and get crowded? Or what if, like in most cases, there aren't 10 guys with knives and guns and bullet proof vests attacking you? These basic guards are very effective and getting up while taking an opponent down, while also keeping your head far away. More modern, sportified guards, such as KGuard and others, don't do this as effectively imo. Anyways, thanks for the good tips, these videos should get way more views!

UFC should allow kicks and knees to downed opponents. Grapplers have no risk for failing takedowns, so they just endlessly shoot, ruining the sport. Ultimately, fighting is also a spectacle, for an audience, without which, the UFC would not exist. No one wants to watch you wrestling fruits sniff each other's crotches for 5 rounds. It's boring and effeminate. Stand and strike.

excellent drill. i dont know what year that was but i think maybe back then the knee shield wasnt really as common as it is today. now it has proven to be very effective so we see everyone using it. im gonna add this drill to my game. except ill only do it going one way since im only good at half guard on one side LOL so it would be pointless for me to go back to the other side 😂
