Watched the instruction several times, ordered and received the purple spring, piston and seal cover. Measured about 85mm spacing between the two pan holes for the spring compression tool. Fashioned my compression tool from a piece of metal used to fasten a ceiling light to the junction box. It already had a center threaded area for the compression bolt, and carefully shaped the slotted ends to fit the bolts. Found a couple of long threaded 100mm bolts, and had to find the bolt to fit into the threaded center. Also, after much frustration, bought a real C clip tool from Lowes, Craftsman brand. Releasing the C clip and removing the cover found the purple spring broken in two places. Cleaned out the bore, and re-assembled the accumator with the original yellow spring, replacement new piston, new purple spring and cover, added more trans fluid, and it all works good ! Now I see transmission building pressure (observing the tach), the engine running cooler, soft shifting as expected, and the dip stick level providing ancipated accurate fluid level measurement. Although working upside-down, its much easier that having to replace the entire transmission.

I am very grateful for the help I received through the videos, I was able to contact him and he helped me troubleshoot a problem. You can't go wrong listening and watching what this guy does to rebuild a 4L60e transmission. He even points out where the weak spots are and what to watch for. Thanks again,

Not sure if this will work, but I have a question for you. I just had the tranny rebuilt in my Dodge Ram. It is a 46RE. The folks that installed it for me put in Dex/Merc fluid rather than +4. They said that they have never noticed much difference between the two, but I am getting the urge to change it out. Can you comment on this situation please? Thanks - Pete.

25:24 18 N*m = 159 in*pounds, not 100. (I verified in the manual for it to be 17N*m, so who the hell knows).

For those of you who DO NOT have a broken Overdrive Piston Retainer, you DO NOT use an O-Ring/it is not supplied in the kit. The OEM Part # is 52118180, the revised/updated part with the O-Ring is Part # 52117975.

Completely ruined my assembly pressing it in. Did everything to the letter. I highly recommend to anyone doing this section to buy the plastic piece Mopar wants you to buy, especially if you have to then use a homemade welded tripod that may not be exactly perfect. The tool is Part # 6227-2, and is called the "Dodge Alignment OD Section Tool." I did the method with removing the intermediate shaft as described and ruined my transmission. Spend the $25 on this tool. In addition, some things to add: When you spin the assembly freely at 34:45, a little wobble is normal (and can even be seen in the video), I spent way too long trying to see if that was something I messed up on. Use ATF +4 to soak, not DEX like is shown. Also, for those with 4WD vice 2WD, everything seemed the same except the bushing at the tail housing (which is not used), and the seal at that end is different (but was supplied in the kit). I couldn't do any of this without these videos, but learn from my mistakes and just get the darn alignment tool.

My rev clutch clearance is .100+ with the 3 frictions and 2 steels. My clip is .075". I have another steel, but its .070" so that would be to tight. Any suggestions on how to bring the clearance into specs?

I have to say the pursuit of happiness reference really got me motivated to re build mine. Been debating on taking it to a shop but screw that I’d rather just pay for the re build kit. Is there any recommendation for a master rebuild kit coming off a 302 f150 1994 4r70w

I just wanted to add that only 4l60 takes .060 inches of clearence as a minimum between the 3-4 backing plate and first clutch plate. The specification is .060-.094 as stated in the video. However, the 4l60e takes .035" to .083" of clearance. That info is per service manuals. I got on mine 0.45" of clearance for a 2005 Trailblazer. I just wanted to put this here if someone is not getting the .060 despite using different size pressure plates; saving you the hassle 😅 I experienced. Always check your respective GM unit service manual
@brittoncorbin7144
@brittoncorbin7144 Ай бұрын
I was wondering this because I replaced my 3-4 pack with 6 friction plates and 5 steels at .106” and the clearance was only .035” and it was all stock frictions and steels but the video somehow gets .60” clearance event though we supposedly used the same parts. I went ahead and changed one of the steels to a .076”, which gives me an addtional .030” or a total of .065”. I don’t mind being on the higher side.
@koffeegreaseaddicts
@koffeegreaseaddicts Ай бұрын
@brittoncorbin7144 you are good there with .035 i would believe but take that with a grain of salt; i'm not trans rebuilder. Just a general mechanic. However, That's what the Trailblazer unit repair manual states and i have a GM unit repair for 98 and calls the same. I tested different plates and the best i could based on this video was .055. I left it a .045 though.
@brittoncorbin7144
@brittoncorbin7144 Ай бұрын
@@koffeegreaseaddicts thanks. Yes it’s a little confusing because this guy is the guru of tranny rebuilds and he said “it’s critical that the end play be between .060 and .085”. I take him for his word and you know he knows the GM specs so I reading between the lines that the end play needs to be a little higher than the factory specs, otherwise he would have just repeated the factory spec of .035 to .086. But then you research and watch the other videos and everyone aims for .035” which is exactly what I arrived at the first time!! The folks wanting the tight clearance claim it makes for firm shifts but the folks wanting the higher clearance talk about increased fluid flow, lubrication and reduction in temperatures. AHH. Very confusing.

Great Videos! I have a question, problem with my tranny is it's difficult to engage drive or 1st when hot.. (not so much when cold) Is there something i can replace on the bottom half where the ball bearing go that somehow affect oil pressure to the internal part of the tanny? Or do you recommend just tearing it all apart wich someday i will eventually have to do?
