What an excellent ride. I love the silence as you get some air early on in that run. THIS it what mountain biking is all about. I know this video is 10 years old but I hope you’re still blasting that hill.

Dude. That was so intense. I wanted to hit the brakes a few times about halfway down! Definitely more enthralling than the typical MTB POV vid.

Great ride! Makes me want to ride it. But it would have to be on newer technology. I kept waiting for him to fly off the side of the mountain. I would do this on a hard tail with disc brakes. I would NOT do it on a klunker.

Looks like you've had the Repack for a while, what are your thoughts on the bike? I found a pretty good deal on the 2014 Repack Pro and I'm on the verge of biting the bullet and getting it...Any feedback would be helpful. Tha ks!
@chrisl228510 жыл бұрын
I calculated your time at approximately 5:32, which would have gotten you a top 5 position in some of the earlier repack races. Not too shabby! I've been curious about the status of the repack route. Is it open to the public? How difficult would it be to really control your speed using modern V-brakes? I'd like to ride it someday but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew!
@scooderdude9 жыл бұрын
+Chris L they used to do this on bikes with a single coaster brake, so v-brakes are fine. it's open to anyone to ride.

It's a '05 Specialized S-Works Enduro set up with a single 38t ring and guide, and 11-25t road cassette, my dedicated Super-D bike at the time. For sale, btw. I picked a new bike a few months back.

Is this the original Mt. Tam route? Also, did you say you did not enjoy it? If so, you are echoing the folks interviewed in Klunkerz. They pretty much agreed that the repack races were never fun, but rather a matter of ego and pride regarding who was the fastest downhill rider. Great video here!
@emdshots10 жыл бұрын
Wow! That was awesome! I've been thinking of getting a breezer myself, I'm assuming you would recommend it? haha

Those hub brakes have a grip like linings were made out of clay don't they ;-) Got a similar set up, old Schwninn cantilever frame, Workmann hub brakes F&R, 15 speed w/38 tooth low. My Repack is Brown Mountain Truck trail above JPL, very similar, great for old klunkers like this. To really get that Repack experience you need to use the same old knobby beach cruiser tires like they had back in the 70's. That gives the ride a whole new experience because they have the gripping power of margarine ;-)
@scooderdude9 жыл бұрын
+KlunkerRider true, but they also groomed the race line, about 18" wide, so it was much smoother than it is today.
