I'm so sorry to say this, this is by far the worst book I've ever read! Everything was forced, witch being overly nice to the kid (Luna) without any common sense who's going on a rampage with the magic. Her imprisoned mother with magic just cannot get out of the tower and all the action was forced at the end. The stupid shoes, sorrow eating villainess and whatnot!!! It was extremely repetitive. If the writer was skilled, she'd end it in 200 pages instead of adding 216 more pages of waste. I'd NEVER recommend this book to anyone.

I find myself in the minority here, but I really wanted to love this book. However, I couldn't bring myself to do so. The main issue I had with it is the lack of character development in Addie over the 300-year timespan covered in the story. It's hard to believe that she remained stagnant despite witnessing significant global events, especially considering the continents she traversed. In this world created by V.E. Schwab, encompassing only Europe and the US, the lack of impact on Addie's character is perplexing. Furthermore, the 450-page length felt excessive; the story could have been effectively told in 200 pages. The interactions with Luc were repetitive, and the time jumps lacked the seamless flow needed to captivate the reader. Additionally, the overuse of similes in the first two chapters detracted from the storytelling. There were parts that were emotional.. but that was it,, some parts.. i felt so heartbroken after finishing the book because I wanted to like it..

Thanks for your passionate review. Just wondering at the use of the phrase, "man-up?", is that a reference to her dressing as a man? It is a bit of a gendered term with connotations of pushing down feelings that are not "masculine". Anyone can be brave and overcome barriers of despair or pain. Women-up might even be a better use for the latter?

I agree. I’m about 60% done reading this book and I feel like nothing has happened, I’m so sick of being stuck in controls head , I was curious if others felt like me. This book has been such a let down so far. I liked book 1 and I liked the movie and was really looking forward to getting some answers but so far I’ve got nothing and just learned about control who I don’t care about at all. Ugh

I also feel like you didn’t even read the whole book based on your review tbh. You only talked about what you can read in the synopsis. It’s way deeper than that and is packed with adventure and love and growth

I’m half way through misruled and I’m positively terrified of a sad ending 😭 ik I’m a few years late but do I need some mental preparation with a box of tissues, endless supply of ice cream, my dogs company, several laps around my room, a full year break of reading anymore books, a thousand angry emails written to the author for making me sad and a weeks worth of sobbing and crying over every chance I get over the ending and especially every time I hear any name starting with an A and rhymes with Malice? If so please tell…I think I’m far from prepared in readying myself for anything 😭😂❤

I'm not understanding the "Saraí Sequence" in the first pages. Is she a goddess? Is she a Ghost? Are her friends ghosts? Or Why do they interact with ghosts? I think this book isn't for me

I hope Delilah makes a third book. Vi Moradi bringing Siv and Torbi to Batuu might not be a good idea. Remember what happens to Kijimi long before it's destroyed, likely the First Order would start taking Batuuan kids to be conscripted into stormtroopers during Batuu's own occupation. For those who have read Phasma and Black Spire: Return to a Shattered Planet, I can easily see Torbi getting taken along with the other kids by the First Order and Siv not being able to get to her in time. That could be what causes her to join the resistance as Vi Moradi had offered in order to eventually find and rescue her daughter.

100% agree There were a lot of moments in the book that I felt like "why would I care?" and it took my quite a while to get through it. Half way in I had to force myself to pick up the book. Like you said, it should've been mostly from Lyra's perspective, because those parts I really enjoyed. But in between it was much of the same and made me go 'OK, OK, let's move on"

I guess I found the racism realistic in the society presented. Most of the characters hold prejudice against other races and demonstrate nationalism. The unlearning, the friendship, romances, and unity are all large themes in the series imo.

I completely agree with you with the shadow wand. I got a bit bored and ended up having mixed feelings 😑 didnt wanna admit that I got disappointed with it cuz the first two books were that good:’(.. So I wasn’t as excited to pick up the fourth one but I am about 30% through it and enjoying it :) .. and yeah there are so many POVs and love stories (its good but..) as u said, they are on the brink of war 🤣.. Looking forward to reach the last two hours part u mentioned here!

As an adult, I stumbled upon your channel and Jonathan Koan's, and it inspired me to pick up some Star Wars novels! Been reading lost stars btw! I hope you get back into making content again, such inspiring content.

Hey, thanks for reviewing the entire series. I have to say that this series went a long ways towards restoring my faith in modern writing. I had really read some clunkers lately, and I was starting to think that modern writers were lacking. I loved this series from beginning to end. Fantasy or no fantasy, I am a sucker for good love stories, and this is absolutely a fantastic love story between two very different characters with loads of obstacles to overcome both in their individual lives and even more so in their relationship. Honestly, I don't know what is more inspiring: Han's determination to do anything to be with Raisa, or her sticking by him and never losing faith even when it seemed like the entire world was against him. They are awesome characters with a fantastically written love for one another. I would say that I think the book could have used another 40 pages. The final battle was wrapped up too quickly and not all the conflicts were actually settled. Fortunately for me, the love story was mostly what I cared about and that is the one thread that was concluded.
@shawnn7502Ай бұрын
I think a little more happens in this book just because of all the assassination attempts and the truths that are revealed as compared to the second book. Otherwise, I do agree that, again, compared to the first book it is a slower pace. However, by this point, we know that the entire series is really just a love story between the main two characters. Nearly everything else gets pushed to the side, and I am fine with that. I love how CWC never strays far from that central relationship and keeps getting back to it, building it. The scene in the garden near the end is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. This entire love story is masterfully written.
@shawnn7502Ай бұрын
Definitely the slowest book of the series. However, it also is where the relationship between Han and Raisa really starts. I absolutely love how that part is written. This book really got me excited for the remainder of the series. Thanks for the review.
@shawnn7502Ай бұрын
Fantasy is a notoriously slow developing genre, just look at LOTR. This first book is actually probably the fastest paced book in the series with more going on than any of the other books except for maybe the fourth. I certainly did not think it was slow at all. Great first book that is carried by its two main protagonists. Both characters are presented as flawed in this book and needing work. Raisa is naive to danger to the point of being reckless, and Han is prideful and trusts no one. He makes snap decisions that get other people killed. The best part of the book is certainly when they are together- a brief moment that will alter the course of both their lives. It is great to see them develope, each making the other better. Thanks for the review. I would prefer spoilers so I can hear about specific plot points, but I still appreciate this.
