Just had a thought - weren't the Smiths brilliant? I'm still coming to terms with Mozz and his struggles but - feck me he was a legend and unique and of his time and the Smiths were the best UK band of the '80s. Despite it all we should cherish him. And Johnny Marr is still the best guitarist we have.

As merry as the days were long I was right and you were wrong Back at the old grey school I would win and you would lose But you've got everything now You've got everything now And what a terrible mess I've made of my life Oh, what a mess I've made of my life No, I've never had a job Because I've never wanted one I've seen you smile But I've never really heard you laugh So who is rich and who is poor? I cannot say...oh You are your mother's only son And you're a desperate one Oh... But I don't want a lover I just want to be seen...oh...in the back of your car A friendship sadly lost? Well this is true...and yet, it's false Oh... But did I ever tell you, by the way? I never did like your face But you've got everything now You've got everything now And what a terrible mess I've made of my life Oh, what a mess I've made of my life No, I've never had a job Because I'm too shy I've seen you smile But I've never really heard you laugh So who is rich and who is poor ? I cannot say...oh Oh... You are your mother's only son And you're a desperate one Oh... But I don't want a lover I just want to be tied... oh...to the back of your car To the back of your car To the back of your car To the back of your car To the back of your car To the back of your car Oh...

Sounds very punk. Like as if The Damned were the backing band. I love it.

The whistling and baying crowd only seem to add to the poignancy of Morrissey’s soliloquy.

Morrissey sang this at the O2. the whole audience were silent. I was just centre left to the stage down front and the 2 effing stewards on the left just kept yapping on. I gave them proper English stares but I I still think about it now. If I had started with them would it have made things noiseier and worse for others.

I like how this song is 4:20, which is full on "Hitler Time." and, I think he never did like Me because, I think I embarrassed him a bit. I mean, he cared deeply for Me aNd, he took exellent care of Me, but there probably was QUIte a bit of conspiring about Me going on. aNd, he bugged the heck out of Me aNd, he made Me upset a lot but, I loved him. Anyway, I have You back In My Life, so I DO have everything NOW.

The melody sounds like something happier, it moves away from the melancholy that the original song has. The lyrics are still raw, but the melody gives the song a much more calming and peaceful tone.
