You guys went at the wrong time, you went a bit late. I have surfed Ras Al Suqlah with my father back in 2007, The point break was barreling all the way off the point to the beach almost every June for the whole month of every following year, but in July started to go sour due to Khareef winds etc, the point was too open too the onshore winds. If you continue to drive south towards Masirah you will find some nice beach-breaks, but they are hard to get too, you will need a decent 4x4.
