I have a 6k Pro and I so looked forward to using this update, but it has major problems. I updated to 8.6 beta and everything seemed fine until I tried playback, which turned out to be horrible. My camera has an Angelbird CFast 2.0 card which played back just fine with version 7.9.1 which came with my new camera. The 8.6 caused freeze framing while the numbers rolled. This update would be great if it actually worked. 'Looking forward to when the bugs are worked out. I was overjoyed when I was able to downgrade back to 7.9.1.

Sounds like you may need to see if the CFast card needs firmware updating.

While I love the image 4K production produces I still think your move is a bit insane. As fantastic as this camera is it’s also deeply flawed. The iso is very limited and even at 400 if you lift the shadows you might end up with fixed noise pattern. The highlight roll off is very poor and the artefacts it creates at specular highlights can be a nightmare to get rid of. While in ideal conditions and lighting the image is outstanding the issues I mentioned would give me pause.

So I own the bmcc 6k ff camera. So is it your opinion that this monitor is a better choice than the blackmagic 7 video assist. Can the blackmagic record in pro res? In your opinion, what is the best monitor I can buy for my camera?
@cinechimp13 күн бұрын
Hi James, that's a hard question to answer because I'm not sure what your exact use case is. But this is the best budget monitor recorder by far. It does lack Prores, but if you have the 6kFF cinema camera, why would you want to record externally? Second that camera only does HD out via the HDMI cable. The videos assist 7 inch is a far better monitor recorder, but it's 900 USD. For the camera you have with a single 1080P output, and your chasing the best monitor, (no recording functions) then Small HD is leading the pack right now IMO. But you would be looking at a +1500 USD. On the budget end SHIMBOL, Hollyland and Portkeys all have great monitors that offer a wide variety of additional functions for BMD cameras, from wireless transmission to touch controls. These start at around 150 and top out at around 700. But if you plan on changing cameras down the road, the 7"video assist is still great, just more expensive and only competes if you get the 12G high brightness version. If I was you, I would wait, and use what you have for a bit, because I am sure BMD will release an update that will allow the 6KFF to use the Pyxis USBC monitor. That just wouldn't surprise me. Hope this helps

Resolve has some real advantages compared to Premiere Pro in certain areas, but I absolutely can’t understand how so many people act as if Resolve is overall so much better than Premiere. The entire workflow, controls, features, and insert options in the timeline are just so ridiculously bad. Because of bugs like the copy & paste issue mentioned here, along with many other poorly implemented features in Resolve regarding usability, Premiere is, in my opinion, far superior when it comes to pure timeline editing and handling.
@cinechimp13 күн бұрын
two words, its free.
@Mo_Mentum13 күн бұрын
@@cinechimp yeah but no. To get all the professional tools and features you also have to pay. The free version won't do anything in professional filmmaking
@cinechimp13 күн бұрын
@@Mo_Mentum trying to compare a very reasonable 1 time fee, free with a camera purchase or BMD hardware accessory, or free version which is ever improving and that a lot of creators use, to the never ending monthly fees adobe charges is a stretch, in terms of proposition value. Aside from price, I haven't used a single adobe product for professional work since I started using resolve in 2010, so it's hard for me to judge your workflow critic. As for pure editing, all of the professional editors I know, commercially use AVID, Resolve or FCP. No one uses Adobe, unless the workflow calls for lower quality compositing in AE. Otherwise it all goes to nuke. I can't even remember the last time I used photoshop or lightroom as I have learnt how to do all that in fusion. And there's nothing wrong with sticking with what you know, so is Adobe works for you - that's perfectly fine. As is the opposite, for those who prefer alternative platforms - to which one has more bugs, the general consensus would be, that lies squarely in adobe land, which is why most people make the switch.

Hallo. I am a newbie. Hopefully you can answer my question 😊 I wanted to get a good camera on a budget. I found this camera, the Blackmagic 4k with microphone and extra sigma 50mm lens, OR Dji pocket 3 OR an action cam like Go Pro or Insta Ace Pro I mainly need to shoot city streets or people while walking or biking, and again shoot hiking trails while hiking. The action cama all look cheap to me ....a d bad quality images Can the Blackmagic Cinema Cam 4k shoot better than an action cam for walking, in movement videos ? I would rather get this over an action cam, but I want to make sure it can do the job I need to do Thanm you i
@cinechimp24 күн бұрын
Yes pocket 4k can do that with accessories. But a DJI pocket 3, insta360 or Gopro sounds like for the content you're envisioning, content that needs awesome stabilization would be a much better fit for you. With hiking, weight of a camera is a major concern and a pocket all rigged up to provide steady shots when riding, hiking or street walking is going to be huge compared to a pocket 3 from DJI. Then main reason a lot of the action camera footage looks terrible is most adopters don't buy the ND's to control the light when outdoors. Hope this all helps. Save the money, start small. Shoot some stuff and see if your audience comments on the quality of the footage. Likely they won't as story is far more important.

Great camera. But I'm having trouble buying a working camera. Tell me, did you have the following problems: 1) Horizontal moving stripes in the dark at ISO 400 / 800 2) Visible heterogeneity of the sensor structure in the dark at iso 400 and above. 3) Slight color shift towards green in certain areas of the image
@cinechimp29 күн бұрын
Hi Illya, great questions and am sorry you are having trouble finding a working unit. Ok when you say "in the dark" do you mean that you are not lighting the subjects you are filming or that you are seeing fix pattern noise in your shots when properly exposed?
@IlyaPodnebesmiy29 күн бұрын
@@cinechimp Yes, in the dark, or even better with the bayonet closed. And the color shift is both in the dark and with proper exposure in daylight.
@cinechimp29 күн бұрын
ok, if you have the lens cap on, the FPN you are seeing is the sensor. When you expose the shot correctly with this camera, (which has a modest DR) you shouldn't see the FPN. If you are there's an issue with it. And the green shift is most definitely not normal. You have to remember, this camera wasn't designed for NO or low light shooting. When it was newly released, it pitch was as a low cost high end production camera, hence the name. So add light, to get the best result from it. As for the green shift, if you are shooting RAW, have you tried correcting it out? If so what results have you found? I usually add greeny blues into the colour correction with BMD cameras as the all seem to lean warm. The pocket cinema 4k (which has a sony sensor in it) and is way better in low to no light, could be a better option for you. But a lot of creators that adopted that camera eventual shifted to the a7siii....I like lighting. ;)
@IlyaPodnebesmiy29 күн бұрын
I'm not really bothered by the apparent heterogeneity of the sensor structure in the dark, although I've come across cameras where the heterogeneity split the screen in half, and it's very noticeable. What bothers me the most is the half-hearted noise that moves up and down. They are very noticeable when the entire exposure is correct, but there is a dark area where there is little light. Regarding the green color, it is removed by the davinci mask.
@cinechimp29 күн бұрын
sounds like the camera you have may have an issue and unfortunately BMD does not support them anymore, only the community do.... I wonder if anyone out there has also experienced this behaviour and how they fix / outcame it? Email me some clips, I would like to see it myself....
