My father was an officer in 1/7 GR (1st Bn, 7th Gurkha Rifles). We sometimes had Gurkhas stay in our home. Such lovely and warm-hearted family people and yet ferocious in war. The kukri I received on my 13th birthday is one of my most prized possessions. I still have the birthday card they signed. I have the utmost respect for them as gentleman and professional fighting soldiers.

I stayed at the old ghurka barracks in folkstone kent for a London area sea and royal marine cadets summer camp and we were getting food from canteen which was made and served by nepalese civilians I think families of soldiers and the curry was so delicious but fucking hell was the spiciest thing I’ve eaten it was like ammonia u could smell the spiciness and the ghurkas eating in there were pissing themselves watching us eat it and were cheering us on to eat as much as we could and people were running to toilets was fantastic great memories

Being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan I saw the Gurkhas fight. When they pull out their knives they’re about to do some gangster shit. They’re the only men that can bring a knife to a gun fight and win. Much respect from this Corpsman.

My dad was a Gurkha(along with my grandfathers), i dont know for how many years since he never told me and i dont want to pry too much but I'm guessing around 10+ years. Im grateful for him because if he wasnt my father then we wouldnt have been able to come to england and essentially our lives would be pretty difficult if we stayed in nepal. And my future would probably be out in the mountains, tending to livestock or something. Id say my dad had a pretty difficult life, having survived cancer and tb but now he lives a pretty good life. Due to his back pains and other issues he doesnt work and is a stay at home husband while my mom works but he hardly ever stays still, always going out on walks and such. It makes me wonder if he misses being a Gurkha since he sometimes mumble some Gurkha phrases.

Massive respect to the gurkha's. We are proud to have them. We should treat the veterans better, though.
