Yes...I gave myself (a grown man) permission to cry. Music so beautiful crafted.

I sang this in my high school choir...years later, I'm out of college and when I listen to this song I still feel the calmness of it all. I can listen to this masterpiece and look back, grateful to have been able to sing/perform it with my group. I miss my high school/choir days so much! If I could go back I would, but for now I look back with much fondness🤍

2024 Anyone? This is a amazing piece my teacher is gonna make us do this year for the winter concert. And I LOVE IT. The Powerful Bass Solo meant to say jestingly "Move over Tenor, Alto, Soprano. This is our spotlight this time." The collisions of the 4 different voices are so powerful and made me cry when I first listened to this song when my choir teacher showed this to us. I can listen to this all day and night. Eric Whitacre, You are so talented.

What is so great about this opening scene is that, as seemingly minor and flavor-intended it seems, it actually ties into the plot and themes of the game. SPOILERS: It is an example of the complaints Constantine/The Trickster has which you read about his plans in texts he wrote. While obviously a Satanic figure, his function within the cosmology of the world of the Thief games is as the embodiment of powerful, Chaotic, but Natural Magic Forces of Life and its capacity to fight for its survival, as opposed to the forces of Progress, Order, and Civilization represented by the Hammerites. The bears losing their claws, fangs, and powerful natural instincts to fight to survive represents the neutering of nature via technological advancement by the City. It's a great little full circle revelation after playing through the whole game the first time and coming back to this scene and remembering what The Trickster wrote about.

We sang this with the Swedish Church choir in London back in 2014 and I absolutely loved it. This was ten years ago and I miss that choir very much. The Seal Lullaby then became one of three lullabies I sang to my baby every night. To this day - he is now six - we will either sing or play it to him until he falls asleep. The lyrics and the way the song sounds like waves are so beautiful - it truly is a masterpiece which I hope every child gets to hear while being lovingly rocked to sleep. Thank you Eric Whitacre 💙
