worked great and saved a workstation from death for me i had to boot from Hirens boot WinPE open cli go to system32 of the os and than type: rstrui.exe /offline:c:\windows select restore point and let it do its thing.. at the end it said it failed but it actually worked and after a restart the os booted and said the restore was successful tnx a lot, this is actually the only place i found this solution.

So what if I've already removed that plastic cover without seeing this? Can I line it back up? Thanks for sharing!

(my computer crashed, I tried to restore, however the GUI wouldn't let me select the c:), I went into the command prompt like you showed and typed it in and it worked in bypassing that point. I ran the restore process but it failed. Maybe something else is wrong.
