Cecil was for Ice, Knights and Witch of the Fens. It also lets you not care about opposing Faris pings in the mirror. I've never been a big Lev6 fan in 4cWol, and Cecil pulls a lot of weight against aggro. I played 1 Faris 1 Arc because in swiss, people are going to respect more than 1 Faris. Also, in testing, I felt like the only warrior of light cards that mattered were Faris and 4cWol. Good players aren't going to put you to 3 damage unless they are ready, and we were playing in a tournament where it is the best players in the world. As for Jack Garland, you can play more monsters if you want. There are times where you slam a Jack and your opponent now has to block your Lightning (either one). There are also times where clearing their board to set up a future lethal is also better than risking EXBursts (because they must block), so it lets you play your hand with minimal risk. I didn't really care for any other purple monsters, they aren't very good. Miwa is there for Ice and Knights as an out to dull freeze. There are also times where you can just lose as Chaos to a Jill->Shiva, and holding a Miwa makes it so you can never lose to that. It's also part of why we played Noctis in Chaos instead of in 4cWol. However, hindsight, I would still cut the Miwa. There is a newer version of Chaos that was brought to worlds by Hirehire, it is becoming popular in Japan. It plays forward water Lenna and more water cards, revives Thancred into Gilgamesh FFBE. I am personally not a fan of that version of Chaos because it is very very specific on your mills and needing a lot of water cards, but protecting your Break Zone with Lenna is pretty cool. Maybe there is more there to seek out. For the future I would swap Leo and Noctis, Leo should be in Chaos and Noctis should be in 4cWol. Worth noting that we did have only 2 King Tycoon until the last day of testing. We had 3cp Wind Y'shtola in the deck for a very long time. My motto, "get ahead stay ahead", Y'shtola is a perfect fit for that. Also being able to recur it, revive it, search for it. If you get ahead and play Y'shtola, it's really difficult to lose. However, it unfortunately got cut to add the 3rd King Tycoon, as most of our losses were to not getting to play the game. Shantotto backup can be cut as well, but watch the earth count. The deck runs a LOT of fire and not much water, so you'll need to play around that.

Happy new year! Overall a great year for FFTCG imo. The LB mechanic breathes fresh life into the game and featured some of my favorite cards like Cloud, Serjes, Mont Leonis. The only thing I don't understand is why they give the 3 strongest LB cards to an element which didn't need that much help. Still, I feel overall it has been a big success. We've seen some great cards printed with my favorites being Lucio and Young Excenmille, but also cards like the Prime packages, Zenos, KurasameH, Frimelda, Raegen, Citra, Strago + 1cp Lev, Belgemine, Nacht, Genesis, Parai and Nelapa to only name a few have been very fun additions to the game. With the dislikes: while I agree on some the obvious choices you mentioned, here are my thoughts why I feel Tidus has deservedly been voted into this position: It is just an example of mistuning imo. First of all, a bunch of backups (especially tech choice 1 offs which then go to dmg) get devaluated out of practical play because removal is available in the sideboard. So be it, but, on top of that, if the card said draw 1 instead of draw 2 it would see play and still be impactful and viable. If a card can take such a huge power drop and still be good then something is just off in the first place. Other legends, on the contrary, get designed overly carefully. For example, would Sephiroth 22L be so OP if u could cast it for the rest of the game instead of your next turn? I don't think so. Maybe with the arrival of Genesis, it would on the verge of broken but the effect could've been printed on another name instead. It is this kind of uneven tuning between the elements which annoys me a bit and Tidus just happens to be a poster child of this phonomenom. 😉 Bans: not strictly needed as there are many decks possible currently. Still, the game could be more fun if we had regular ban list updates. Restricting both Rai-Jin (as you said, only degenerate stuff gets hit) and 4col Wol (hits Refia, Earth and all GilgameshFFBE shenanigans) to 1 would be a good start imo. Favorite Decks: Wa/Li Monsters, Lucio Crystal variants, Ice/Lightning good stuff. All decks which are fun to play with and against imo. Least Favorite Decks: Chaos, Knights, Refia. The first 2 because sometimes u dont get a game and I like the game. Refia because it gets too many things "for free". Just by putting natural cards, it happens to get 20+ EX. On top of that, due to multi-elements, it has a staggering consistency being 4 colours. But 4 colours means, backups can be frozen to lock out of colour-fixing, right? Don't worry about it, Refia reactivates you every turn. Because of it being 4 colours, it also has access to all the best cancel spells in the game. And as you said, for the opponent it is often a frustrating luckfest to play against it because your options are very limited. If your lategame is not at least Mono Wind level, you have to attack into it, pray for no EX and somehow deal with all the damage 3 effects as well. Now what's the chance that is going to work out? 😆 Overall even with the small "nuisances" mentioned here, it has been a fun 2024 of FFTCG. Thank you for providing the content, it has always been a pleasure to watch. Cheers

Cheers for the long thought out comment. The only thing is that like… we don’t need bans but clearly the game was better for Sterne and Macherie’s removal etc. And like… I see all of those applying to Raijin. I’d just really like a timeline of where we can expect anything because while we don’t need answers, it’d be so, so nice to hear some thoughts on them from the devs.

I've really wanted 4cWol to go for a while now, but it seems like it's going to be the marquis card of FFTCG. With the upcoming reprint, I doubt it'll be touched, but I do truly think it being 4 elements is the actual problem. The rate on Raijin is so huge it's unreal. I think the only reason to ever ban Chaos is to future proof design space. If we ever want crazy break zone synergy, it will revolve around Chaos from here on out. If Raijin was gone, you'd have the 7 element Chaos build still, which 4cWol is still clearly the problem child here because without it Gilgamesh FFBE would be difficult to achieve 7 elements. I'd personally ban Wol4, Raijin, and something from Wind (Asura or 1cp Alexander probably). I'm not a fan of Luso and think Wind is kind of pigeon holed into that strategy while it is around, but I don't think Luso is a problem card.
@GhoulSRL12 күн бұрын
I think if you ban Raijin, Chaos immediately stops being a problematic deck. I don’t think Gilgamesh is by itself problematic - it’s a very effective finisher but it loses to removal, Amat, Chu, Mist Dragon, two forwards with 9k power on field and most importantly, costs 3 CP to play. If Chaos special didn’t just also represent two damage from free *giant* 9k first strikers, the deck would also need the reach from Gilgamesh and Estinien which would open up counterplay beyond “hit a burst” That said, WoL4 is independently a problem card due to what it is, rather than what it does and I’d like to see it removed as much as they’re willing to for game diversity.

Fantastic roundup! Was great to participate in the survey. +1 for the raijin ban. I’m still of the feeling that the game has potential, but we need more reach before the card history gets even more intimidating. Reach and player introductions will only get more and more difficult as the game’s lifespan grows. No way is a player going to look at this game and decide to jump in after 30, 40, or 50 opuses. (Reprints are helping a lot, but it’ll overwhelm at some point) I’m not sure if I want an online and accessible client because I see there’s potential downside impacts as well as upsides, but gosh dreaming of those upsides nearly makes me want to build the darn thing myself. (God that’s a lot of work tho)

If FF had a Master Duel equivalent, I’d never leave the house lol. I think there’s a bit of a misnomer on people not joining mid-stream. Magic and Pokemon and YGO have been running for 25, 30 years and they still pick up new players, despite the monumental task it can be for YGO and Magic. It really boils down to marketing and optics if the game wants to ever move past the “tiny game” mantle it currently has.

PS: The problem with WoL is how hard it is to get any copy of it. There is the Reprint set comming but I think they should include atleast one copy of him in a future starter if they (I sure hope so) make any.
@GhoulSRL12 күн бұрын
I actually completely disagree. WoL is a card that’s a problem and not even necessarily for what he does but for what he is. Yes, he’s relatively hard to get ahold of for the game but at top levels of play, access to the card is not why he’s causing problems.
@Szini5012 күн бұрын
@@GhoulSRL My comment of how hard he is to get acces to is just a side note. Right now I still believe it would be a shame to lose him because of how unique he is.
@GhoulSRL11 күн бұрын
I actually think the opposite. He’s restricting deck diversity by pushing all 2 element decks to consider splashing the last two to play him at almost no cost. And even if it is unique, Sterne, Macherie and Althea are fun and unique cards with problematic applications that were removed for good reason. I think that, reprint and rarity aside, WoL is having similar repercussions on the format as those did.

How many polls would I as an individual need to conduct before hobby japan would decide to ban raijin, asking for a friend Jokes aside my biggest issue personally with chaos combo and largely the existence of raijin probably more accurately is, not only is it degenerate as hell to play as well as play versus, but how can they fathomably make a more competitive aggro deck without breaking the game. Is aggro just solved? Or will something even worse come out that will demoralize people even more For the record I taught my wife how to play chaos in a night and she went like 4-3 or something at LCQ at NA nats and I don’t think that should be okay haha
@GhoulSRL12 күн бұрын
Playing against Chaos devolves the game into a different mini-game than it normally is. It’s interesting but shouldn’t be encouraged. And yeah, I’d like to see if they ever keep two turn kills in the format to not have them immune to Amat and sometimes Mist Dragon and Chu. I think the problem is as much the lack of consistent counter play to what the deck is doing without resorting to absolute meme tier cards.

Love the videos but only one request for future ones. As a somewhat newer player that has some card familiarity, I'm not always aware of the cards you're discussing or remember all the text when you point out specific cards. Sometimes you tend to pop between pairs quickly enough that it's hard to pause and read the cards for a second, example in this video being Cissnei/Behemoth at 38:09. I don't mind looking things up on materia hunter, but if I can just pause the video to give it a quick read that's my preferred, especially for older sets lol

A fun variant that I picked up from top 16 NACS lists is the Fire / Water Taivas/ Refia build, which just runs the whole Taivas package and all the Fire / Water warriors of light(Lots of changes from that list though since that was for 2-deck). I find it fun that you dont know if you're playing Taivas Control or Refia Control based on your draws lol. But that 3-color WoLs sounds interesting!
@GhoulSRLАй бұрын
It looks interesting - my issue with it is kinda what I alluded to when I was talking about the reason my Refia deck isn’t explosive at all - it just doesn’t really need it. Any game that goes late, the deck wins anyway. It’s also part of the reason I switched to Terra over Unei. There’s some neat synergies with stuff like Akstar playing Faris and such but all in all, if you have access to more colors, there aren’t that many situations where playing the Taivas is better than doing the Refia thing. If I had to guess, the most likely thing to happen in Refia for the future is going down on payloads and up on bursts and backups if more powerful LBs and summons are printed. That said, I bet the Taivas variant is probably very fun to pilot which is always worth something, on top of freeing WoL for mono-earth in 2 deck format.

Legitimately, as far as I know, never. There’s been a huge push to make mono worth considering since opus 18 and now some of the best engines and backups reward playing a mostly mono-deck and previously, there just wasn’t a reason for it. On top of that, the speed of the game increasing is rewarding the consistency of those mono-engines. It’s been a cool change to see.

I think the Lucio has a potential to be a power house for crystal decks. I would run 4 warrior of the crystal in the two elements your runninng. Probably water and lightning. I want to think of him as 5cp draw two (which happen to be the worse cards in deck to use for CP and filter to get to the other good cards). If he can last 2 or 3 turns, he's done his job for a pseudo 1cp 8k (10k) and 4-6 crystals.

@andrewcampbell31042 ай бұрын
@ I think Cact-berry is deceptively good. It’s basically a bit of role compression for your 8Lb cards functioning as a slightly worse cloud and a slightly better Leo. It also has some benefits of being able to be played when you have cloud out on the field or vice versa which can help out in games you need plenty of removal. Always having access to breakzone hate is also never a bad thing in the case of Gilgamesh which can force your opponent to be conservative with what they discard.
