I like doing a 2 step and reverse the spindle to clear the chips. I especially do this to prevent marking the surface on aluminum.

Why would you cover the entire machine with oil? (Yes, it may have soap in it to.)

Because it's the easiest way to clean off the machine. There is 0 soap in it. It is just oil and water with an emulsifier. Yeah it leaves an oil residue, but anything you're washing off with that, you probably arent touching so it doesn't matter, and if you don't want to leave that oil residue on there then just use the air hose to blow it off. 😁

It's really for chip management so you don't build up metal flakes all over the inside of the machine. Everything flows into an auger and then a sump at the bottom.

@@i2c_jason yes, but that is how that hose is used normally. (But it's main use is to absorb heat from tool an workpiece.) But that does not mean you spray the cooling mixture on the entire machine.

I wish these cnc videos would get more views. I'm in the 3rd to last class of machining at my school. Only two more classes of less than 10 students and then there will be no more trained cnc machinists in New England

Well good luck to you, that's a pretty sad reality. It's crazy, I realize I don't gear-out on mics and fancy cameras, but content creation for machining, engineering, and prototyping is just very difficult. I think it hurts people's brains. Still, I shout happily into the abyss haha. We need to start making commodity items in this country and then driving more demand for the machined that make the commodities and the machinists that make the parts for the machines.
