I'm visiting Cardiff right now. Been meaning to watch this programme for ages. Happened to put it on. The next day I went to Newport - next town over from Cardiff. Walked to the top of Stow Hill and looked around the cathedral. Then I put the 'official' version of the song on repeat and walked down Stow Hill, thinking about the men that marched and died that day. Got down to the bottom and happened to meet and talk to a Welsh couple at the memorial statues there. We looked for the bullet holes together. Aaugh. (Oh, and I'm American btw, but I live in the UK). What a beautiful song about a tragedy. How can something so horrible be made into something so beautiful? I keep playing the song and looking up at the sky every time he says it. Incredible. What made me even happen to watch this programme when I was in Cardiff? Who knows. But thanks, Michael, for getting me to walk down Stow Hill. And MSP, thanks ever so much for the song.
