All Volvo cars have this problem, those clowns at Dorman make a part that goes on top of the PVC it's like a cap with a spring and silicone like membrane $13, Volvo does not sell this part. Volvo make you replace the whole PCV part not the end of the world. This fails when you don't change oil often enough (my opinion)
@TheGiantMechanicКүн бұрын
You are correct about everything except why it fails. Although you are right that late oil changes will cause this issue faster, oil changes on time won't prevent the pcv valve not failing
@kingcity5103 күн бұрын
Did it have a code for lean condition? I’ve noticed the chevys with built in pcv valve fail and cause a lean code
@TheGiantMechanic3 күн бұрын
Yes, it did! Whenever a pcv is bad, it will cause a code, but you have to be careful and make sure that it is actually the pcv that is causing the lean condition. Very rare will it not cause the check engine light to turn

What a replacement job like this go for roughly considering the parts are remanufactured? Im guessing about $3,500 or so all in ? Perhaps a bit more at dealership?

@TheGiantMechanic8 күн бұрын
No, you just drain the old fluid and put the new fluid in. The fluid was bought from the dealer, I don't remember what exact fluid it is, but it is not just pure simple gear oil

Can you tell if the engine mounts are bad by rocking the engine by hand? If it rocks ok, does that mean the mount are still good?
@TheGiantMechanic8 күн бұрын
You can't because you are testing the front struts by doing that, not the engine mounts. To check your engine mounts, do something called power braking. Putting the car is drive, and while holding the brake pedal, start accelerating every 3 seconds to see if the engine is jumping up, which would indicate the mount being bad. Do the same thing, just not in drive, but reverse to check the other mount. Hope this helps

I got new tires maybe 3 months old and mine is hard to control in rain now... I think I need an alignment, I did my tie rods and ball joints and took took it to the shop for alignment. It feels fine when it's dry but it hydroplanes bad in rain. I have a saleen focus which is stock lower than the svt by like 1.5in with 215 45 17 tires. I think I need it ole school manual alignment not machine. I feel like they based it off the svt and it close and they thought it would be fine or they just did a bad job maybe
