Bolted belays, especially where there may already be pegs for sure. Lots of pegs and random bolts in the Wye Valley.

Magnus says short but in one video he made with Adam Ondra all his strength (which he has plenty) couldn’t compensate for lack of height, while Adam nailed all the boulders due to his superior reach

People in my gym recently got jokingly annoyed with me because I sent a route by skipping 2-3 holds, because I'm tall enough/have long enough arms to just barely reach up and grab the last hold, skipping the last move. I agree saying tall is better, but having less weight and a lower center of mass would definitely be nice on some climbs.

Think about self restraint. Why not just drill every last drop of oil. Gotta have some wilderness areas out there. Bolting is a permanent installation. You are drilling a freaking hole on the rock you preppy gym rat.

Really disagree with this. I love the fact that some passages on rock can't be climbed, or that certain pitches only open up and reveal their magic in a way that's part of the struggle.

I don't think it's controversial at all. In discussions like this, climbers often extrapolate that the argument is one shouldn't climb with knee pads, or one shouldn't climb with bouldering pads. Alex is simply pointing out what a lot of climbers don't want to acknowledge - that the grade is not the same.

4:25 This is quite funny to hear, actually, because this is exactly what I've been doing to help someone I know who recently started climbing. She's scared of heights so I let her jump off the wall from different heights, starting at about half a meter, going up higher and higher without letting her get nervous or scared. This has become part of the warm-up and it works really well. I've also noticed that it feels pretty good for the knees to do this.

An opportunity lost here to ask Hazel about how pregnancy was impacting her and her views on motherhood and climbing. Magnus couldn't have been less interested if he'd tried. Growing a human (Hazel tried to bring it in), becoming a mum whilst being into sports is such a bid deal for women and so rarely discussed. Shame 😐
@loganwandersАй бұрын
I think this is a little overcritical. It could have been a neat angle to explore, but this is a climbing video on a climbing channel where the theme is a Q&A between two climbers. Complaining that the focus remained on climbing instead of the joys and challenges of motherhood seems a bit ridiculous. Magnus is not a parent, and I get the impression that taking the conversation in that direction would be a bit out of his wheelhouse.
@shellytraverseАй бұрын
@@loganwanders I agree that it clearly is out of Magnus's comfort zone, though given he's in his 30s, (not 19!) I'm not sure why. Given climbing is something we do with our bodies, it's not ridiculous to discuss what's going on with our bodies. And how that impacts climbing. For instance climbers always discuss their minor (and major) injuries and how it impacts their climbing. Pregnancy tho' not an injury also impacts the body and will affect alot of climbers and oddly rarely gets discussed. Lets sit around discussing cheese shall we and pretend women don't have babies and call women who question this ridiculous
