Well done man! Sounds great! I'm teaching myself piano currently. What are your best tips for a beginner to play like you do?

@@xFalcoMusic Do you mean for piano in general or learning to improvise?

@@danaroonyncheese1994 I'd love both if you're willing! I have been improvising a lot. I typically find chords I love, then learn the scale based on the chord, then find connecting chords. Where would you go from there?

@@xFalcoMusic In all honesty I can’t say much for improv. I’ve been improvising since I first started playing and that was about 5 years ago now. You just have to do it a lot and eventually you will get better and better. I’m still not that happy with my improvising but I’ve improved a lot. Don’t be scared to experiment with dissonance and all sorts of cool harmonies. I don’t typically stick to any key or chord progression when I improvise, I like lots of modulation. For improving at the piano in general, as most people say: practice scales and arpeggios. This helps you learn the keys and chords a lot easier. Start simple. Everyday as part of your warmup, pick one scale and arpeggio and play it as many times as you are happy with, start slow and don’t make any errors. If you feel too comfortable at the tempo it’s okay to increase but once it feels like you could mess up at any moment slow down. Also, practice pieces that aren’t too hard for you but are still a challenge. If you listen to a lot of piano music I’m sure you want to play some difficult stuff but hold off on it because once you reach that level you’ll learn the music much faster and play it much better. Be consistent. Practice everyday. Especially in the beginning stages of a piece because it will leave your brain much faster if you skip a day. If you want to, getting a teacher will make you progress a lot faster but it isn’t necessary if this is just a hobby. Time spent practicing every day is really up to you and depends on your goals. At a beginner level less time is actually quite good. I would say no more than an hour is necessary for improvement, but if you want to spend more time, spend it on something new like sight-reading, improvising, etc. Don’t spend too much time on one thing cause there is actually a point of diminishing returns when it comes to piano practice. As for your question about finding scales for chords: I say learning more about music theory would make this a lot easier. Personally I don’t think too much about the certain scales that go with chords. I think about other chord colors that go with a chord though. For example, over a Db major, play g major, eb major, or Cb major, all sound really cool. Think more about how chords relate to eachother than they do to scales. Like dominant to tonic function (V-I). That way you can use the same scale but change the chords and it still sounds good. Instead of changing the scale every chord. I can go on with a lot more. Ask any questions you want.

Mate, i'm gonna give you 2 cents. I enjoy the artistry / thought of the impro. But - Try to think of any situation when i could hear a piece you play. This should help you in your discovery. Cheers
