Excellent review of hiring a narrow boat! I highly recommend your video to anyone considering hiring a boat. Very valid and accurate pros and cons. Unfortunately, the flavor of your experience is very dependent upon the weather which can be quite fickle in the UK.

Ok, thanks for the correction. I will have to check google maps again 🤔
@csat10785 күн бұрын
@@OverlandExposure It is the chain bridge: first permanent bridge of the city; commissioned by István Széchenyi after he travelled across the UK and brought multiple inventions with him; and unsurprisingly: Designed by English engineer William Tierney Clark and built by Scottish engineer Adam Clark ! :). To confirm just look up "Széchenyi Chain Bridge" :). Sadly all the bridges were blown up during ww2 by the retreating germans. Look up "Erzsébet" / Elizabeth bridge as well; the original Erzsébet bridge (1903-1945) was a work of art.

So why on the earth you bothered yourselves with renting a car to drive, from the airport when you could have just taken a cab for 30 pounds, or even ask the airbnb owner to come pick you up?
@OverlandExposure10 күн бұрын
Did you watch until the end? It shows that in the next episode we start a road trip in Romania. It means we didn't need to pay $60au from the airport, then $60au back again (total $120au) to pick up the car, when the rental cost each day for the car was less than $20au per day, plus the time to go back again to collect it on the morning we were going the opposite direction to Romania. Maybe watch the vids to the end, with an open mind and ask questions if you still have them politely! 😁
@Kinlever10 күн бұрын
@@OverlandExposure Or, one of you could stay in a hotel on the last day with kids, while the other one could spend only 2 euros on a bus ticket to go and get a car from the airport and pick up the rest of the family on the way to Romania. :) I am just saying I don't see why you bothered yourselves with a car in the city, when you clearly did not need it for the city ride, and it is really stressful for the first time visitors to drive in Budapest. But, its ok, it was an interesting video anyway. It just looked to me you exposed yourselves to unnecessary stress.
@OverlandExposure9 күн бұрын
@Kinlever after about 5 minutes there was no stress driving and hey, we learnt new skills. We look at travel as an opportunity to push the comfort zone and try new things. To us, a lemon is a vehicle that has continual different problems, one after the other. This was not our case, this was just a one off, unfortunately faulty engine, that was replaced and then no other issues with the engine or vehicle (other than wear & tear) for 000's of KMs.

National Trust, you can take the 'individual' membership and that covers you for their car parking (and one person going inside houses) - if you do want to go inside properties, you only then pay the extra for other family members. On the (hire) car insurance thing, typically hire car companies will add a spouse on for no fee - especially if you sign up for their (free) membership cards e.g. Hertz Gold etc.
@OverlandExposureАй бұрын
Thanks for the tip about the NT, we were only told about the family pass one. Oh well, we have still saved heaps as we always go in as a family. With the hire car, we have had no luck adding on the extra driver without huge fees on all the hires we have done (& that's quite a few with various companies too) 🤔. Will keep an eye out though for next time!
