The tweezers always made more sense to me than the toothpick, because you could maybe remove a splinter with them. You’d have to have teeth like gravestones to make any use of the pick. I replaced mine with a little firesteel.

I have the regular Victorinox Skipper and as a cable guy I love the wire stripper. Love the whole knife but I love the safety lock button on back. I keep in in my tool belt. I have a blue lock blade victorinox I carry on me...Its just like the skipper but more compact, just the blade, can opener, bottle opener, cork screw and the punch

BOATERS PLEASE WEIGH IN. I am contemplating a gift for a boating person. The marlin spike on the Skipper seems more useful with shackles. But the marlin spike that locks in place looks stronger and safer. Do people have strong preferences? I'd love to hear boater's opinions. Thanks in advance. Ben.
@hugoharmstorf6234

I sail, and chose the skipper. The smaller marlin spike / shackle key is plenty big enough for the shackles I deal with on an 18 foot boat, probably up to 30 foot. If you’re dealing with shackles like at 0:48 or bigger, you might be better off with the Pro model’s marlin spike. But you trade away pliers and a great Phillip’s screwdriver to get it. As a gift, either would be great!

@@hugoharmstorf6234Thanks for weighing in. I did decide on getting the Skipper Pro in the end. It was the fact that the blade, marlin spike, and pry tool are all lockable that swayed me in the end.

I have a skipper, and a skipper pro. I love them both. The skipper is better for all around functions. It's got pliers and a Phillips head. Also, the marlin spike is more gadgety and comes handy in a pinch quite often. The pliers are great for fishing. That said. I've got a tree business and after pulling a tree down with a truck, I broke that marlin spike untying that knot. The skipper pro is basically a just a spike and a knife. But that spike.... I've used it as a jack handle, a pry bar, a wedge. I've undone steel cable on my bucket truck. I've hammered it into things. I've pried up vinyl tiles from my floor. It's an ice pick. Victorinox will repair a broken marlin spike for $5 if you mail it in. Between the 2, for what they both are, they're a 10 out of 10. Just know what you actually need going in and pick one. You'll be happy.

How this boat performs in rough weather?
@blu-havenmarine288
@blu-havenmarine288 Жыл бұрын
3-5 foot waves so far, tough little boat. Cuts waves pretty good with big splashes over the bow. I do not like taking her out over 13 MPH winds, the boat is light weight and the winds likes to push her around sometimes.

There was not an Air conditioning option when I ordered the Antares 8, I know it's available on the Antares 9 and it's a $6,500 option, however that was a few years ago, prices are probably higher now. Try an aftermarket A/C, but I think you need a generator or need shore power.

The Jeanneau sister ship - NC 795 - as of 2023 offers a complete A/C installation package minus the A/C unit itself. Installed during factory assembly, it saves a lot of the hassle and some expense of a post-delivery install. Thru-hulls (2), pump/screen, all hoses, control panel, AC breaker box, ducting and the list goes on. Perhaps the Antares 8 offers something similar?

I really appreciate this video. We've gone back and forth with Jeanneau / Beneteau because the material quality / QC / fit and finish just seems so poor. But there seems to be nothing wrong with the hulls, and the layouts are perfect. How do you find the materials on your cabinets / drawers and so forth? Your boat looks great. Every used BeneJeanneauTeau we've been stank and looked horrible. What other boats did you consider? Love the hull color. All we get in the PNW is white.

Thanks! These boats I consider the "IKEA" of boats, and it gets the job done. I did not need a floating apartment like Sea Ray or Tiara yachts. I wanted a mini yacht and this fit the bill, literally it's the best bang for the buck. Most every boat gets broken and worn out at some point. Look for a future "deep dive" video on this boat.

@@blu-havenmarine288 Just so you know, a 'deep dive' follow-up report would be quite welcome. B's have a rep for falling apart. Has yours? Would you opt for the 250 hp outboard if choosing again? This simple, understated review was very helpful - thank you!

Why do you think used boats like this held onto foul odors? One of the reasons I like this boat is the hard fiberglass surfaces underneath the removable cushions. That design looks like the cushions could be easily replaced and the fiberglass looks easy to wipe down and eliminate mold and mildew. It doesn't seem like smells would be an issue.
