THIS IS HOW SHRINKS DESTROY THE WORLD. IT'S NEVER ABOUT FIXING THE CORRUPT HELLSCAPE!!! IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT WHAT A BITCH YOU ARE FOR BEING SAD IN AN AWFUL CORRUPT HELLSCAPE. SHRINKS ARE VILE LYING, SCUM. THEY ARE HERE TO GET PROLES BACK TO WORK IN THIS HELLSCAPE, NOT HELP YOU.

I'm a therapist and belong to ACBS- thank you Joe for a lovely short example that I can share with clients. I'm strictly Telehealth, and often use the Matrix when I am screen sharing with a client. Your brief explanation of the Matrix is really helpful so the client can process ahead of the next session.

Saying the monsters can’t “physically” harm you doesn’t help because emotional pain can absolutely exceed physical pain.
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting Ай бұрын
Although it's probably true that emotional pain can exceed physical pain, it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges - they are two distinct types of human experiences. While physical pain serves as a warning that we are causing harm and need to stop immediately, emotional pain functions differently. Emotions provide us with valuable information, signalling what we care about, indicating loss or dislike. Physical pain has a clear purpose of self-preservation, whereas emotional pain serves as a guide for our values and relationships. It's important to recognise and honour both types of pain, understanding that they play different roles in our lives.

I did not understand how that related to cognitive decision skills can anyone help me, please Iam suffering from trichotillomania and trying my best to find therapy by myself because no one is around to support
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting 5 ай бұрын
The metaphor of the comfort zone illustrates how our decisions can be influenced by old habits and the desire to stay safe. While there's nothing inherently wrong with this, it can hinder us from living the life we truly desire. It's important to remember this at crucial decision points. I strongly encourage you to seek help for your trichotillomania. It can be challenging and painful, but there is definitely hope, and effective therapies like ACT or CBT can make a real difference. These therapies are structured and evidence-based, with a proven track record of helping individuals. Best of luck on your journey.

It's an easy presentation to demonstrate the core idea of ACT. I first watched this video in 2014 when I was struggling hard with a few types of psychological problems. I had a feeling that ACT could be a suitable & applicable method to help me out of the dark hole. Time flies and under God's grace, I have slowly become a person who is not entangled and harmed by the past wounds. So, I'm here to say "thank you" and encourage the viewers who are seeking a more manageable life to practice ACT techniques in real life.

Thanks very much for sharing your story. I really appreciate it. Stories like this give others hope that recovery is possible - which can be very hard to hold on to when in the dark hole.

As a therapist, I struggle with Imposter syndrome and self-doubt every single day - actually, multiple times a day. Sometimes I buy it. Sometimes I don't. From another perspective, sometimes buying this story motivates me to try to do better. Other times, it just pulls me down and makes me ruminate compulsively. Learning to mindfully observe without buying the story takes a lot of work, but is well worth it.

Seems like a lot of therapy is based on the assumption that your thoughts are not connected to reality. I mean, if I just stop thinking about my problems, that's not gonna make them go away in the real world.
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting Жыл бұрын
The key is being skilful with thoughts, which means responding to them effectively. Even with thoughts that are true and real we can choose our response. We can choose to let them run the show and boss us around. Or we can choose to respond in ways create a bit of distance from the thought so that we can stay true to our purpose.
@danielroy8232
@danielroy8232 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeOliverContextualConsulting For example with a thought like "I can't build a meaningful career because of my criminal record" I'm not sure how distancing myself from the thought is gonna really solve anything.
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting
@JoeOliverContextualConsulting Жыл бұрын
@@danielroy8232 Well, it's not going to solve the fact that you have a criminal record. That is a fact. But if you let the thought take over and run the show, and for example, don't apply for jobs, don't re-train, engage in lots of avoidance behaviours, then a meaningful career is taken off the table. But it is possible to have the thought "I can't build a meaningful career because of my criminal record" and respond to it skilfully - observe it, don't ruminate on it, hold it lightly - and at the same time take actions that move you towards a meaningful career.

Hate to be that person but I don’t think buses are the best analogy. I get the message but when the metaphor you’re trying to use is something that’s literally meant to stick to its route etc it doesn’t really work out. I mean the peeps just wanna get to their destination but mr driver goes ‘you’re coming with me’ and kidnaps them out of the city (no wonder they’re complaining lmao). Had to watch this in a group session and it just made me chuckle. Maybe it’s time to make a more updated version? There’s been a lot of discoveries etc in 9 years and I’m sure we can make a better representation than this x

Message is pay attention on important things in your life. If you pay too much attention on unwanted thoughts, you will miss many valuable things. Let the thoughts come and go, you just shift your focus, no need to control or suppress your negative/ intrusive thoughts.
