This mode was amazing and we won't get something like this ever again I don't get the dislike for this mode

Smash 64 was one of my favourite games as a kid.. until Melee.. after that i couldn’t touch it. :(

I disagree about 64 feeling bad, I had a lot of fun with it. It looked good for its time. Melee just improved upon it so much it ended up feeling worse in hindsight. It still had some memorable stuff. Ironically having specific fights in its classic mode gives it some unique identity. The Metal Mario, Giant DK, they were at least unique.

I think Melee even had the best single player content. 3DS/WiiU was barren, Ult's spirits sucks. And Brawl was just a worse Melee + SSE which is ironically better experienced via youtube than actually playing it. Melee had unique break the targets, the adventure mode was concise and focused on actual Nintendo franchises. The events were really fun. Lot's of hidden content.

SSE is the biggest cope in gaming, fans really REALLY want it to be good, and will say it's good as long as you ignore 99% of the game and only enjoy the cutscenes it's bland, janky, bad. As a platformer it's terrible, the bosses are mid as best, there's not more story than a fan machinima. The cutscenes are cool that's about it. The intro of Melee was better.

Smash is the only fighting game I care about. Even 3 players is just fun to play.

What I think may be the most realistic solution is if a campaign mode was added as paid dlc like octo expansion. Like it would suck because you have to pay extra for such an important part but that way they could put the time into it necessary aft2r the game is already out and slap another price tag on it in order to actually pay for it's existence. Like I didn't even buy the dlc for ultimate but most smash fans (me included) would be willing to pony up like 30 or 40 dollars for something like that just cause how much we want it. We may not be happy about it but tbh I think this is one of the only ways that we would get a "subspace 2" The other option would be basically making a subspace 2 into its own game reusing everything that already exists in Ultimate. Then all you'd have to add would be some bosses, cu5scenes and level design

I always despised the hate against "clone" characters in a game. why the hell not have slightly different versions of a character to play? I'll play Miharu over Xiaoyu in Tekken all day just because I can!!

i feel like saying ZM makes the original “obsolete” is doing the original a MASSIVE disservice. the atmosphere and sense of exploration in that game is something i’ve never seen replicated, and i honestly think ZM streamlines the game too much by giving it an obvious progression system. like, sure, you CAN skip the long beam and get the varia suit early, but those are all hidden shortcuts. in metroid 1? i fought ridley first on my first playthru cuz i just kinda felt like it. i wish ZM had that level of freedom also, metroid 1 *does* have a map-if u draw it out urself ;)

subspace emissary was my childhood and i still stand proudly in saying its absolutely amazing i NEVER got past the maze tho lol, i kept getting lost and dying so i never reached the final boss edit i just realized i did get reach that final door, but never knew how to get in so i gave up WHEN I WAS AT THE END man i was such a fool lol im distraught by this information edit again i also realized that the cliff theyre standing at in the end looks like the cliff from ultimate where that “storymode” began, so it might be a direct continuation

I would say this is a top 10 game of all time. Consiering its era of release and the jump from Smash 64 to this rivals that of Link to the Past to OoT or Super Mario World to Mario 64. It's THAT monumental of an increase and you had to be alive back then to truly understand. Gameplay wise, it's contender for best fighting game ever imo. The mechanics, tech and combat are so deep it's ridiculous. Only Project M / + compare since they're modded to take the best aspects of Melee. I would take a 20+ year later patch (buffs only NO nerfs 😁) plus dlc content (new characters, new tourney legal stages, and new music, expanded adventure mode / event matches????) for Melee over a new Smash ANY DAY. Upgrade the control scheme options and give it roll back net code and voilà Nintendo, you'll have people CRAWLING at the door midnight release.

Never got into competitive, but we played the CRAP out of this game and loved it so much. There was so much to do and you could just feel the love and attention to detail that went into all of it.

Amazing video. Melee was one the most remarkable games I ever played, and I think a huge reason for that which most people overlook is the unlockable characters. Let me explain. My dad bought me Melee in 2002, when I was only 4 years old. At first I didnt like the game very much, I thought it was too complicated and I would keep dying over and over again. But my dad and my older cousins used to play it a lot, so I got into it, even if at the beginning I would only play Kirby. I guess I didnt know how to use Up B to recover, and that didnt matter as much when you played as Kirby. As the years went by, my dad and my older cousins managed to unlock every character, besides 4: Falco, Pichu, Mewtwo and Mr Game and Watch. So kid me thought that those were all the characters available, even because I used to reset save files over and over so I could unlock the characters again. I guess I liked unlocking stuff, so when I had unlocked everyone again (besides those 4), I would reset so I could unlock them again. That was my time with melee until late 2006, when my dad said he looked on the internet how to unlock other characters (I live in South America, internet took time to get here, my parents only had a computer with internet at home in late 2006 and I barely knew how to use it). So my dad played 100 man melee and when the "challenger aproaching" showed up and the fight against Falco began, it was mind blowing to 8 years old me since I thought there were no more characters to unlock. Later we unlocked Pichu, which was super cool too, but Mewtwo and Mr Game were beyond mind blowing since they were so different from every other character. On top of that, a new game mode was unlocked: all star. All of that made me get obsessed with melee. I thought that maybe there were even more things hiding and waiting to be unlocked. Maybe even Giga Bowser was unlockable. This mystery of great unlockables was also cool in Brawl but is lacking in smash 4 and Ultimate, sadly. It was a big reason why Melee felt so special to me as a kid. I wonder how many people played with even realizing Mewtwo and Mr Game were in the game since they were so hard to unlock. And guess what, there were more things to find out about melee! I only discovered competitive melee in 2013. When I watched those videos I was amazed by all the advanced techs like wavedash, even more because I would think "damn, I played this game so much as a kid and I never knew about any of these". Melee keept surprsing me so many years later

I feel like some people forget that there doesn’t need to be a bunch of cutscenes for it to be a real story mode and I like world of light better and that’s just my opinion

I remember I was playing it with my mom when I was little, we got to the end and lost against the blue guy, then I played it by myself without my mom and beat it, I got every character, then years later, my data is gone so I’m trying to beat it again XD, I’m in the cave or something level idk. Also epic video as I also love the subspace story mode :D

The nurse's voice can come from any mic actually. She just speaks way too close to it🤣. In her final lines, you can hear the VA on what is assumed to be her swallowing the mic, and at another point you can hear it dropping on the floor. She has the least annoying voice out of everyone...and that is saying something🤣🤣🤣.

Subspace was the best thing ever to happen to smash. World of light is so bad that I still haven't beat it. It's lame as hell and idk why anyone would play other than content creators.

Apparently they were going to do something similar for Smash Wii U but they don’t because they didn’t want the cutscenes to be leaked online That is a weird reason for why there is no story mode in Smash 4
