25 year review. My 1999 GT Convertible automatic does 0 to 60mph today in 4.9 seconds. Thanks to modern tuning and a few well understood power mods. Love how after 25 years and 84k miles its still needed nothing more than gas and oil changes and rides better now then it did then. I have never even seen the check engine light yet? This type of reliability should be studied by young engineer's over at the Big Oval to see if they can crack the code once again.

mercedes 190 is NOT by any means a "rival"of the bmw 525.Plain stupid auto journalism. The Merc E or that year still the xxxD or xxxE was the rival of this things. And they were better cars for the price. Not much better but better.

in early 1992, the local Volvo dealer offered me a leftover '91 940 Turbo for 23K (which was exactly my budget). As a 25 year old at the time, I was very aware that this did not fit my young single image, but I always had a soft spot for Volvos since the 1976 Volvo 242 DL that I owned when I was 18. If they offered me a black or dark green one, I would have taken it. The only color choice was white, and so I didn't. If it was an SE, I would have had trouble resisting even a white one.

This reflects an American perspective on a car originally designed for Europeans. While Audi later introduced a V6 to cater to market demands, true enthusiasts who embraced the core of Audi's philosophy knew there was "no substitute" for the iconic 5-cylinder engine.

This is the best E Class Mercedes ever made. Even today they look modern especially the interior. And the interior build and material quality was better than any that came after it. Electrical issues aside, these are mechincally Bulletproof and drive smoother and softer than the W212 that came after it and felt more substantial and solid than the W213. We'll wait and see about the W214 especially since modern Merc build and interior quality is awful. It's so sad there's no more regular V8s. The early 2000s was a golden era for German automobiles. Now we get cheaply built, poor quality and 4 cylinders only. Sad. The W211 even came in a V8 diesel in the E420 cdi. Oh my heart.

I still laugh knowing that these reviews know NOTHING of what people actually wanted. The throw them into curves, slam them in the track violently, all the while talking about how they feel like marshmallows...yet this one made it to 2011 and could have had another 10 years if given the chance.

The auto slush box on these do sap over 30 horse from the engine compared to the 3 pedal version which the one amateur at the end said the automatic doesn't rob the engine from its power. for that point go to the Dortorday Retro review of these things and on that channel they point out the automatic is less horse.WRONG

The aftermarket Short shift Kit will fix the dollar store Chinese Knockoff OEM manual shift linkage, but in those days who is making said short shift Kit for these things ? Possibly nobody unlike today you can get them for the tremendous 5 door hatch am radio delete Hyundai pony.

3 year Hidden Socalled no cost option extended 60K only kilometers is superbly ridiculous because engine failures happen after said milage and yes I'm Irish Canadian & always prefer the milage measurement. Makes more sense. Period but a superb obnoxious rarely used if ever Power train warranty. True mechanical warranties start at a minimum 100,000 miles, then let the manufacturer pay for repairs after a highly anal maintenance regime by me a owner .
